What Is Wrong With Fast Charging On Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus & S22 Ultra?

Samsung has recently launched the Galaxy S22 Plus and S22 Ultra, but something seems to be wrong with the fast charging on these smartphones. The company launched both these smartphones and the vanilla Galaxy S22 on Feb. 9, 2022, at Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked event. Alongside, the South Korean tech giant also announced the Galaxy Tab S8 series, which happens to support fast charging as well.

None of the Galaxy S22 series will ship with a charger in the box. While those who already have a 25W charger from Samsung will be able to charge the device with it, the company is selling both the 25W and the 45W fast charger separately. Apple started the trend of not providing chargers with smartphones. First, the company shipped iPhone 12 without a charger in the box, which was then followed by Samsung as well.

Two out of the three Samsung Galaxy S22 series members, the Galaxy S22 Plus and the Galaxy S22 Ultra, support 45W fast wired charging, or at least Samsung says so. Known technology website GSMArena put the two smartphones along with three types of chargers, including Samsung’s 25W and 45W chargers and a third-party 65W PD charger. The objective of this test was to find out the difference in the time taken by these smartphones to charge with different chargers, and the results were confusing.

Galaxy S22 Plus & S22 Ultra Charging Test Results

What Is Wrong With Fast Charging On Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus & S22 Ultra?

During the first 30 minutes of the charging speed test, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus could get to 62 percent with the 25W charger and a mere 64 percent with the 45W charger. Since the 45W charger supplies more power, it should charge up the device at a faster rate. On the other hand, the most premium smartphone from Samsung, the Galaxy S22 Ultra, reached 61 percent with the 25W charger and 60 percent with the 45W charger. In a similar charging test conducted by PhoneArena, the Galaxy S22 Ultra reached 66 percent in half an hour with the 45W charger.

The time taken by these smartphones to reach 100 percent does not make any sense either. The Galaxy S22 Plus took 62 minutes to charge up to 100 percent with the 25W charger and 61 minutes with the 45W fast charger. Similarly, the Galaxy S22 Ultra replenished its battery in 64 minutes with the 25W charger, as opposed to 59 minutes with the 45W charger. Given that Samsung has advertised these smartphones to support fast charging and expects users to pay separately for the chargers, the results are inexplicable.

For reference, the Galaxy S22 Plus has a 3,700 mAh battery, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra has a 5,000 mAh battery. Based on the charging tests, it is not recommended to purchase the Samsung 45W charger that costs an additional $50 on the price of the smartphones. Previously, Samsung faced the same issue with Galaxy Note 10 Plus and the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. Since the problem was not repairable, Samsung dropped the 45W fast charging claim for these smartphones.
