What Is The Tesla Flying Car And Can You Buy One?

Word about a Tesla flying car has started making the rounds. However, the car isn’t a Tesla, but the Jetson One, a flying car that’s already garnered plenty of pre-orders and doesn’t need a license or prior flight knowledge to operate. Before this revelation, the news has been abuzz with the creation of a Tesla flying car. This shouldn’t be laughed at, considering that Tesla boss Elon Musk once shared with a podcaster his intentions to equip the Tesla Roadster with flying abilities. Although he claims that the car will only fly for a brief period, it’s something many would pay to see and someday own.

The only thing connecting the flying car and Tesla is that the Jetson One is powered by Tesla batteries. Usually, a flying car would be traced to Tesla, seeing as Tesla values innovation and constantly works to enhance the driving experience for users. Earlier this year, Musk described Tesla as a leading artificial intelligence company, citing the development of a Tesla bot, among other inventions.

In a Business Insider interview with Jetson Aero co-founder Tomasz Patan, the Jetson One is described as a flying car built solely for one passenger. He reveals that the Jetson One has a top speed of 63 mph that can stay in the air for up to 20 months. The reason for not requiring a license to use, Patan explains, is because the vehicle carries the tag of “ultralight aircraft.” The Jetson One isn’t the only flying car concept available today, with General Motors gracing Consumer Electronics Show 2021 with a duo of the flying car and autonomous vehicle prototypes. While these creations won’t be ready for a while, it offers consumers a view of what the automotive market may soon showcase. As long as automakers and tech companies keep mating electric vehicle and drone technologies, the world will welcome practical examples of these inventions.

What To Expect From The Jetson One

Developed by a Swedish startup, Jetson One isn’t to be considered an excellent alternative to the usual vehicles. Instead, the flying vehicle is designed to allow users to relax and enjoy a short flight. With the Jetson One weighing in at only 190 pounds, it stays in line with FAA rules and doesn’t need certification to fly. The Jetson One is the first affordable electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft (eVTOL) available to consumers. The Jetson One’s exterior design is a great blend of aluminum and carbon fiber. These materials make the aircraft lightweight, thus allowing users to always enjoy their flight. Eight electric motors power the aerial vehicle, and one exciting thing is that the Jetson One can still be flown even if an engine breaks down.

While the Jetson One is up for pre-order, the orders taken now will be delivered next year. Currently, prospective buyers can’t get the flying vehicle even if they paid today, as the window for 2022 orders has been closed. The Jetson One is sold for $92,000, though consumers will make two payments. First, interested buyers will need to make a downpayment of $22,000 and then the second payment of $70,000 when the order is prepped for delivery.
