Despite being the newest part of the A Quiet Place franchise, A Quiet Place: Day One will not follow the plot of the first two movies. Instead, the film is a prequel and spinoff. While A Quiet Place Part II takes place over a year after the alien invasion, approximately 476 days later, according to the A Quiet Place: Day One trailer, A Quiet Place: Day One is set during the actual first day of the apocalypse. This new film will have a timeline that follows entirely new characters and their journey through the early days of the alien invasion.
This passage through time isn’t entirely new to the A Quiet Place franchise. In A Quiet Place Part II, the early scenes of the film depict a flashback to the alien invasion as it occurred to the Abbott family. The other new character that appears in the A Quiet Place: Day One trailer is Stranger Things’ Joseph Quinn as Eric. Though not much information is provided in the trailer, it seems that Eric and Sam meet in the midst of the apocalypse and team up against the aliens. Eric looks to be some sort of businessman based on his appearance. Most likely, Eric will be the secondary main character in A Quiet Place: Day One. Other new cast members include Alex Wolff and Eliane Umuhire, though neither of them appear in the trailer, leaving their roles a mystery.

Ultimately, this will cement A Quiet Place: Day One as a prequel spinoff because it will give the film a distinctly different ambiance.
What is especially exciting about A Quiet Place: Day One’s setting is that it will show audiences a totally new side of the franchise. While the first movie mostly remained at the Abbotts’ home among their family, and A Quiet Place Part II explored further into upstate New York, this movie will fully explore a new setting. According to the trailer, it seems that Nyong’o’s Sam will meet with the Man on the Island, likely before he takes on that role. This hints that the island from A Quiet Place Part II could make a return in the spinoff, before it became a safe haven.

Despite the fact that the A Quiet Place franchise is releasing a prequel spinoff, that does not mean that the main series is over. In fact, in 2025, Krasinski is finishing out the trilogy with a third movie, A Quiet Place Part III. Considering its far-off release date, there is very little information about this next movie, however, it is confirmed that the film will return to following the Abbott family, and could potentially finish out their story. After this, there is no telling whether there will be more A Quiet Place spinoffs like A Quiet Place: Day One.
