What Happened To The Notebook TV Show?

The 2004 film The Notebook is arguably one of the most famous romance movies ever made, but there were other plans for the story that never came to light. Based on the 1996 novel by Nicholas Sparks, The Notebook depicts the relationship of Noah Calhoun and Allie Hamilton, as they spend a summer romance together before reuniting years later. Their story is told by an elderly man named Duke, to a woman suffering from dementia in a nursing home.

The Notebook was a commercial success and is the most critically praised adaptation of any Nicholas Sparks novel. The movie is also recognized for launching the careers of Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams and is regarded by many as an iconic romance movie. Due to the movie’s popularity, there were initial plans for further adaptations, but some of these plans were never further developed.

The Notebook TV Show Never Happened With The CW

In 2015, it was announced that The CW was developing a TV show, based on The Notebook. The series was set to focus on Noah and Allie’s relationship after World War II and how they settled into their new life together. Nicholas Sparks was to serve as producer alongside Theresa Park, and it was announced that Todd Graff would write the script.

However, since the initial announcement, there has been very little news about the show’s progress. In 2021, The CW’s president Mark Pedowitz stated that they weren’t able to bring more writers on board, so The Notebook was placed on hold, in favor of renewing other projects (via TheWrap). Considering the lack of updates since then, it’s very doubtful that The Notebook TV show will be happening anytime soon.
