What Happened To The 28 Weeks Later Kids: Can They Appear In 28 Years?

28 Years Later‘s confirmation raises several questions surrounding the previous installments of the movie trilogy, with one of them revolving around 28 Weeks Later‘s child actors and the possibility of their return in the third film. Even though over two decades have passed since 28 Days Later first hit big screens, it remains one of the most intriguing and groundbreaking explorations of the overly saturated zombie genre. Its follow-up film, 28 Weeks Later, attempted to recreate its appeal but failed to capture the indie charm and subtle but effective social commentary of the first.

A third installment was always in the talks but did not see the light of the day after 28 Weeks Later left many viewers and critics disappointed. However, after all these years, 28 Years Later is finally happening, allowing the movie series to end as a well-rounded trilogy. However, as exciting as 28 Years Later may seem, it makes one wonder about the possibility of the return of 28 Weeks Later‘s primary characters.

28 Years Later is finally happening, and while the story of the film isn’t yet known, it really needs to bring back the classic characters.

In 28 Weeks Later, Andy Harris is portrayed by Mackintosh Muggleton, who made his acting debut with the movie sequel. Even though 28 Weeks Later was his first major acting project, Muggleton did a commendable job at portraying his character’s fears, selflessness, and willingness to put his life on the line for his family. Towards the end of 28 Weeks Later, Muggleton’s character, Andy, was bitten by his infected father before his elder sister, Tammy, attempted to save him.

Although 28 Weeks Later hinted that Andy may have been immune despite showing some symptoms of the rage virus infection, his fate remained unknown in the film’s final arc. This leaves room for Andy’s return in 28 Years Later. However, actor Mackintosh Muggleton seems to have made no new appearances as an actor after 28 Weeks Later. He previously directed and wrote a short titled The Man in the Mist in 2016 and is also starring in another short named Just Another Soldier, which is in pre-production. However, his inactivity as an actor makes it hard not to wonder if he will return in 28 Years Later.

What Imogen Poots Has Been In Since 28 Weeks Later

From Vivarium to Green Room, Imogen Poots has several other acting credits on her portfolio

Andy’s elder sister, Tammy, is portrayed by Imogen Poots in 28 Weeks Later. The actress was 17 when Juan Carlos Fresnadillo cast her in the sequel and had starred as Young Valerie in V for Vendetta and Alice Thorton in Casualty before appearing in the zombie post-apocalyptic drama. Like Muggleton, Poots convincingly played her role as Tammy in 28 Weeks Later, allowing viewers to resonate with her unconditional love and protectiveness for her younger brother. Since Tammy also abandons Flynn’s helicopter in the film’s ending, her fate also remains uncertain.

Imogen Poots has been active as an actress since her appearance in 28 Weeks Later and now has nearly 50 acting credits under her belt. While she is best known for starring in Vivarium alongside Jesse Eisenberg and playing Amber in Green Room, audiences may recognize her from her roles in The Art of Self-Defense, Need for Speed, and That Awkward Moment. Considering how active she has been as an actress, 28 Years Later could reinstate her in the franchise and finally resolve her character’s storyline.

How Andy & Tammy Can Both Return In 28 Years Later

28 Years Later can give the two characters a well-rounded closure

Since Andy and Tammy were both crucial parts of 28 Weeks Later‘s storyline, it would make more sense for 28 Years Later to feature both than only one of them. 28 Weeks Later‘s ending also established that Andy was properly immune to the Rage Virus with his eye mutation, making him humanity’s best hope for finding a cure. His immunity could serve as one of the central driving forces of 28 Years Later‘s storyline, allowing the movie series to conclude its run on a high note where humans overcome the virus with Andy’s help.

Given how a 28 Decades Later film after the third installment would hardly make sense, 28 Years Later is responsible for bringing a satisfying end to the movie series. Including characters like Tammy and Andy and disclosing what happened to them after 28 Weeks Later would help the film achieve this. However, Mackintosh Muggleton’s departure from acting still raises doubts about whether he will return for 28 Years Later.
