What Happened To Every Character After Jurassic Park

What Happened To Every Character After Jurassic Park

Quite a lot has occurred in the lives of Jurassic Park’s main characters since the movie’s ending. For many, the carnage that took place in the dinosaur theme park in 1993 was just the beginning. Several have continued to be involved in matters regarding these prehistoric creatures in the decades that followed the first movie.

As if Jurassic Park didn’t provide enough excitement for the main characters, a number of them ended up back in the crosshairs of the dinosaurs after the movie in one way or another. As a result, quite a few have emerged as key players in the Jurassic Park sequels. When the franchise was revived with Jurassic World, new characters were brought in to drive the story in their places. Jurassic World and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom were led by a younger generation of protagonists, but the films didn’t completely leave behind the past. There were some characters from the original trilogy who remained relevant to the franchise.

More so than the last two installments, Jurassic World Dominion is a continuation of both stories. Described as the final chapter in the six-movie saga, Dominion is combining the new with the old by uniting its younger heroes with a few members of the original Jurassic Park cast. Going in this direction makes sense, and not just because Dominion is the end of the story. As people who have been dealing with the dinosaurs since it all began in the early 1990s, they have the experience needed to serve as valuable allies to Owen Grady and Claire Dearing in Jurassic World Dominion. Here’s what happened to every major Jurassic Park character ahead of the franchise’s conclusion in Dominion.

What Happened To John Hammond After Jurassic Park

What Happened To Every Character After Jurassic Park

Richard Attenborough’s John Hammond, the founder of Jurassic Park, saw his health decline in the second movie, The Lost World: Jurassic Park. In addition to that, Hammond lost his position as InGen CEO because of everything that happened in the previous movie. Sometime after the movie and before Jurassic Park III, Hammond passed away offscreen. That being said, the legacy he built with Jurassic Park hasn’t faded. A statue was built in his honor many years after his death when Jurassic World’s dinosaur park was founded.

What Happened To Alan Grant After Jurassic Park

Sam Neill as Dr Alan Grant in Jurassic Park 3

Played by Sam Neill, Alan Grant missed out on the fight with the dinosaurs in The Lost World, but he was around for Jurassic Park III. Alongside Alessandro Nivola’s Billy Brennan, Grant conducted research on velociraptors and ended up stuck on Isla Sorna with the dinosaurs. Following several close calls, Grant walked away from Jurassic Park III in one piece. That was his last canon appearance so not much is known about his life since 1997, but details regarding Dominion provide at least one hint. In an interview, Neill mentioned that Grant is “still hopelessly in love” with Ellie, which indicates that their love story isn’t over, nor did he ever move on. It’s possible that the two resumed their Jurassic Park romance years after the third movie.

What Happened To Ellie Sattler After Jurassic Park

Ellie talking to John Hammond in Jurassic Park

Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern) took a step back from the action after Jurassic Park and has yet to be directly involved in any conflict with dinosaurs since the first movie. However, she did have a role in Jurassic Park III, where it was revealed that the character’s life had taken some big turns. Sometime after the first movie, she married an official at the State Department, with whom she had two children. What became of that marriage is sure to be brought up when she reunites with Alan Grant in Jurassic World Dominion.

What Happened To Lex and Tim After Jurassic Park

It would seem that the experiences they shared in Jurassic Park were the extent of Tim and Lex Murphy’s dealings with the dinosaurs in the Jurassic Park franchise. They had cameos in The Lost World, but haven’t appeared since then. They did show up as adults working on a new version of Jurassic Park in the Jurassic Park: Redemption comic book series, but since certain events in the comics disrupted franchise continuity, nothing that happened in the story is considered canon. Where they are now hasn’t been explained, though their ages in the first movie mean that they should both be in their late 30s at this point and may potentially have families of their own.

What Happened To Ian Malcolm After Jurassic Park

Ian Malcolm in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Jeff Goldblum’s Dr. Ian Malcolm was the central character in The Lost World, where he publicly exposed InGen’s activities. Unfortunately, though, his inability to prove his claims came at a cost to his career. Along with his girlfriend Dr. Sarah Harding, Malcolm went to Isla Sorna and had his second misadventure with dinosaurs. But in the end, Malcolm survived the story and salvaged his professional reputation when InGen was finally brought down. Two decades later, Malcolm returned in Fallen Kingdom to give his opinions on the dinosaurs at a congressional hearing. He also commented on how dinosaurs escaping into the wild has created a “Jurassic World”.

What Happened To Dr. Henry Wu After Jurassic Park

BD Wong as Dr Henry Wu in the Jurassic Park franchise

Dr. Henry Wu (B.D. Wong) kept busy after Jurassic Park. The character responsible for all of the franchise’s dinosaur problems never gave up his work in the field of genetic engineering. He made some groundbreaking discoveries and led the way in the creation of new hybrid dinosaurs, such as the Indominus Rex. His status as a respected geneticist ended after Jurassic World as a consequence of all the chaos his experiments caused. But even then he didn’t stop creating new dinosaurs. While in the employ of Eli Mills, he genetically engineered the Indoraptor prototype, which was eventually sold at the action against his wishes.

What Happened To Lewis Dodgson After Jurassic Park

Lewis Dodgson in Jurassic Park

Nearly 30 years after Dodgson hired Wayne Knight’s Nedry to steal dinosaur embryos from Jurassic Park, the character is set to appear in a much bigger capacity in Jurassic World Dominion as a villain. Previously portrayed by Cameron Thor, Dodgson will be played by Campbell Scott when he returns to the big screen. In the books, he was established as an unscrupulous businessman involved in dinosaur cloning. In the The Lost World novel, Dodgson was killed by a Tyrannosaurus Rex, but the movie version never actually used him. Because of this decision, Lewis Dodgson is still very much alive in the timeframe of Jurassic World Dominion. By this point, he’s risen to the position of CEO at BioSyn Valley, the villainous corporation from the books. There’s no doubt that Dodgson and BioSyn have been using the growing population of dinosaurs in the wild to their advantage.
