What Games Are Easiest To Die In (According To Data)

Video games range in difficulty, but in what games is it easiest for players to die? The number of deaths that happen in a game depends depends on a variety of factors, including the gameplay structure of the title in question and how popular it is. To find which game has proven to be the most lethal, a UK based independent electronic retailer called Ebuyer may have the answer.

There are two ways to die in video games. One is to be eliminated by other players or enemy NPCs, and the other is player error – accidentally detonating a grenade, missing a platform jump and freefalling into the void, and other such unfortunate ends. Depending on the genre and difficulty of video games, players either respawn at their last checkpoint, restart from level zero, or are simply knocked out of gameplay, needing to start a new match. While defeating a boss after multiple tries or landing in the top five of a battle royale can be satisfying, frequent game deaths can be discouraging to gameplay.

According to a recent study by Ebuyer, players are most likely to die in Fortnite, followed by GTA 5 and CS:GO. Interestingly, Ebuyer pulled its data from social media analytics, using posts in which players lamented their death to determine its findings. It looked at Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram posts, and did not factor in live-streaming platforms such as Twitch or YouTube Gaming. Because of the nature of the data samples, some of the games mentioned in the top 10 were somewhat surprising, such as The Last of Us Part 2, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Super Mario Maker 2.

How To Survive Longer In Video Games

The final list Ebuyer compiled was as follows:

  1. Fortnite 173,793
  2. GTA V 40,701
  3. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive 12,686
  4. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 11,242
  5. Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War 11,106
  6. The Last of Us Part II 10,528
  7. Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege 6,946
  8. Assassin’s Creed Valhalla 4,665
  9. Battlefield V 3,485
  10. Super Mario Maker 2 1,022

In light of these findings, Ebuyer reached out to gaming journalist Martin Kimber, who was able to offer some advice to players hoping to last longer in battle-royale style games. According to Kimber, getting to know maps intimately in games like Fortnite and GTA 5 can help to evade or attack opponents more efficiently, as well as help get a strong weapon loadout. This advice certainly applies to many of the games on the list, like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Black Ops Cold War, and CS:GO.

Ebuyer’s director of e-commerce, Andy Roberts, argues that dying in-game is helpful for video game skill development, saying “when it comes to gaming, we’re big believers that practice makes perfect, so don’t let the one death make you put down your controller!” This is in line with Kimber’s advice as well, as dying in video games, whether by the hand of an opponent or player error, can teach what not to do in the heat of the action.
