What David Boreanaz Has Done Since Buffy The Vampire Slayer Ended

Actor David Boreanaz first gained fame playing repentant vampire Angel on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but has maintained stardom since that show ended. Angel was of course once a sadistic vampire who took many lives, but eventually became the victim of a gypsy curse that restored his soul, causing the former villain to regret all the evil he’d wrought upon the world. Remorseful, Angel set out to help Buffy in her crusade against the darkness, and along the way, an unlikely romance developed between the two.

Angel’s soulless side did eventually reemerge over the course of Buffy‘s run, and when it did, just how monstrous Angel used to be became crystal clear. Still, that didn’t stop Buffy from loving him, even if their coupling was seemingly doomed to fail. Angel was a complex, multifaceted character, and quickly became one of the most popular members of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer cast. Boreanaz’s run on Buffy basically cemented his place in Hollywood.

Angel left the regular cast of Buffy the Vampire Slayer after season 3, and with him went David Borenaz. His departure wasn’t anything for the actor to be sad about, as Angel left to star in his own self-titled spinoff series that ran from 1999 to 2004, lasting for five seasons and 110 episodes. At that point, Boreanaz had been a prominent small screen figure for an impressive seven straight years, but he hardly stopped there. By 2005, Boreanaz was playing male lead Seeley Booth on FOX’s procedural Bones, which was another huge success, running for a whopping 12 seasons and 246 episodes, finally ending for good in 2017. For those keeping score, Boreanaz had by that juncture starred on a hit network show for 19 of the last 20 years, an amazing accomplishment.

That said, that still wasn’t the end for Boreanaz, who hopped over to the lead role on CBS’ Seal Team the same year Bones ended. Seal Team was another hit, and is currently in the middle of season 3. While it would seem like everything Boreanaz touches turns to gold, that’s only really true for TV. His film appearances since Buffy haven’t been anything to write home about, appearing mostly in obscure indie or direct to video titles. He did, however, find the time to memorably guest star as himself on both Family Guy and American Dad, and voice Green Lantern in the animated DC movie Justice League: The New Frontier.
