What Bloom’s Identity Really Means For Fate: The Winx Saga Season 3

What Bloom’s Identity Really Means For Fate: The Winx Saga Season 3

Warning! SPOILERS for Fate: The Winx Saga season 2.Fate: The Winx Saga season 2 revealed Bloom’s true identity, setting up a new direction for season 3. There are striking parallels between Fate: The Winx Saga and the Harry Potter franchise, with both featuring powerful “Chosen One” characters who were brought up in the ordinary world – and are taken aback to be introduced to the world of magic they were born part of. In both stories, major character arcs revolve around the protagonists learning the concealed and complicated truth about their histories.

The end of Fate: The Winx Saga season 1 revealed Bloom possesses an ancient magical power called the Dragon Flame. In the animated Winx Club series, the Dragon Flame is a remnant of the Great Dragon, the creature that breathed all creation into existence. There, the Dragon Flame was associated with the royal family of the planet Domino, which was ultimately destroyed by a villain named Darkar, an evil foil to the Great Dragon. The Dragon Flame was preserved by Princess Bloom, who escaped Domino’s destruction.

Fate: The Winx Saga differs to its animated inspiration, however, and so far there’s been no mention of Domino at all. Bloom’s true identity and origin were finally unveiled in season 2, setting up some major twists for Fate: The Winx Saga season 3. Although Netflix is yet to officially confirm the show is renewed, the dramatic cliffhanger ending of season 2 clearly sets up some major twists going forward.

Bloom’s True Identity Is Revealed In Fate: The Winx Saga Season 2

What Bloom’s Identity Really Means For Fate: The Winx Saga Season 3

Fate: The Winx Saga season 1 revealed Bloom was one of the few survivors of Aster Dell, a village of Blood Witches massacred by fairies some years ago. The attack had been led by the powerful fairy Rosalind, for unknown reasons, and she had been imprisoned for the atrocities she committed at Aster Dell. Fate: The Winx Saga season 2 told more of the story, however, revealing the reason for the attack: Rosalind coveted the Dragon Flame. Now freed from her imprisonment, Rosalind maneuvered himself into place as Bloom’s new headmistress, and sought to manipulate her as a weapon against the Blood Witches.

The Dragon Flame had last been seen a thousand years ago, when its use threatened to destroy all Alfea. Even Rosalind seemed uncertain why the Dragon Flame had returned in the present day, but the Blood Witch Sebastian was able to fill in the gaps. He told Bloom she was actually born a thousand years ago, inheriting the power of the Dragon Flame from her mother. Realizing Bloom shared the destructive power she possessed, her mother chose to place Bloom in magical stasis. It seems the Blood Witches of Aster Dell found the baby a thousand years later, taking Bloom there – and becoming Rosalind’s target. It’s unclear what Bloom’s mother hoped to achieve, but the end of Fate: The Winx Saga season 2 suggested answers will soon be coming. Bloom traveled to the Realm of Darkness, which appears to be some sort of afterlife dimension, and there confronted a woman she believes is her mother.

Bloom’s True Identity Will Shape Fate: The Winx Saga Season 3

Fate the Winx Saga Darkar

The first two seasons of Fate: The Winx Saga focused on Bloom’s connection to Aster Dell and the Blood Witches, but that story now appears to have been told. Bloom’s journey of self-discovery has now taken her to the Realm of Darkness, with the show hinting there is a mysterious connection between its version of the Dragon Flame and this enigmatic plane of existence. This interpretation has been supported by showrunner Brian Young, who has teased that Fate: The Winx Saga season 3 will reveal secrets of the Realm of Darkness. “The goal,” he explained, “is to answer what is the Realm of Darkness? How is Bloom and her mom connected to it? Also, how it connects to our big overall mythology, which we sprinkled in a little bit of in season 2.

It’s like Fate: The Winx Saga‘s version of Darkar will be connected to the Realm of Darkness as well. The end of season 2 gave viewers their first glimpse of Darkar, revealing he is now on Alfea. It’s possible he used the portal between the realms to slip through while it was open. Alternatively, there could be a cosmic balance between the Dragon Flame and his Shadow Phoenix, meaning Bloom’s presence in one realm meant he had to be in the other. Hopefully Fate: The Winx Saga will be renewed by Netflix, so more of these secrets can be unveiled.

Fate: The Winx Saga season 2 is streaming now on Netflix.
