Werewolf by Night Blade Cameo Theories Addressed By Director

Werewolf by Night Blade Cameo Theories Addressed By Director

As it nears its debut, Werewolf by Night director Michael Giacchino talks about whether or not the Blade cameo theories are correct. Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is reaching its end, with She-Hulk: Attorney at Law season 1 having a few episodes left to air, while Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will be the final MCU film in the slate before kicking off Phase 5 in 2023. However, Marvel Studios is taking part in the Halloween action this year with the upcoming MCU special, Werewolf by Night.

Similar to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Werewolf by Night is horror-themed, which will bring Jack Russell, a.k.a. the titular character, to life. Werewolf by Night follows a group of monster hunters who eventually encounters the Marvel monster while meeting to mourn the death of Ulysses Bloodstone. Giacchino, who has a long history as a composer, including Tom Holland’s Spider-Man trilogy and The Batman, directed the black-and-white Disney+ special, which will be released on Friday, October 7. While the horror installment appears to have MCU tie-ins, including the Time Variance Authority, there have been theories about Blade debuting in Werewolf by Night after Mahershala Ali’s brief voice cameo in Eternals.

With Werewolf by Night coming out in roughly a week, Giacchino was directly asked whether or not Blade will appear in any capacity. In a recent interview with One Take News, the outlet brought up to the composer/director that Ali was rumored to appear in Werewolf by Night but had to back out due to scheduling conflicts, to which the director expressed that 99.9 percent of the time, “rumors are insanely inaccurate.” See what Giacchino said below:

You know what, rumors are insanely inaccurate I would say…99.9% of the time. The thing about the Marvel Cinematic Universe is everyone thinks that every single thing is going to be connected. EVERY single thing. And it doesn’t mean that we’re not connected. But, I didn’t feel the need to blatantly say we were. You know, every other show has done that, and they’ve done it brilliantly, and I thought “you know what?,” when I was a kid, I would pull a comic off the shelf and this particular Werewolf By Night issue had nothing to do with anything else in the Marvel Universe. What’s wrong with that? That’s okay!

Blade Not Likely To Be In Werewolf by Night

Werewolf by Night Blade Cameo Theories Addressed By Director

While Blade would fit in with Werewolf by Night’s supernatural and horror elements, it’s doubtful that Ali will make his on-screen debut in this project. At this point, audiences shouldn’t expect to see Blade until his solo film, as the reboot will start filming in October. As much fun as it would be to see Blade, it would be unfair to Ali’s character and the Werewolf by Night property, given the latter is more obscure to mainstream audiences, Giacchino’s MCU special should be allowed to focus entirely on its own characters without the spotlight being shared with a guest character.

Giacchino made a valid point about letting MCU projects like Werewolf by Night exist independently without relying on cameos. While the MCU always emphasizes how connected this franchise is, it can also be a double-edged sword. Rather than be focused on the titular character, if audiences know that another Marvel character is showing up in the main character’s show, it takes away some of the lead’s attention. It’s similar to the situation where some MCU fans got angry with She-Hulk: Attorney At Law episode 6 when Charlie Cox’s Daredevil didn’t pop up after the setup in episode 5. Even if Blade is not part of Werewolf by Night, the Disney+ special still looks incredible and refreshing, as it allows the MCU to try something new in the franchise.
