Weird Rick Prime Moment Is Finally Explained By Rick & Morty Season 7’s Total Recall Parody

Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Rick and Morty season 7, episode 7!

Rick and Morty season 7’s Rick Prime arc features one incredibly weird moment, but it has finally been explained thanks to the show’s Total Recall parody. A significant chunk of Rick and Morty season 7 has had to do with wrapping up the Rick Prime storyline, which has been the main focus of the series’ overarching narrative for several seasons now. As of Rick and Morty season 7, episode 5, pretty much every Rick Prime question had been answered except for one, but the Total Recall parody just tied up this last loose end.

Rick and Morty season 7 is finally here, with the highly-anticipated continuation of the beloved animated sci-fi series now releasing on Adult Swim. Rick and Morty season 7 has managed to bring back the wacky misadventures of the titular duo once again, but it has also managed to strike a balance between these stories and the overarching Rick Prime storyline. Rick and Morty has finally concluded this Rick Prime arc, but even when attempting to move on to other one-off stories, connections to Rick Prime keep popping up.

Rick Prime Had A Kuato In His Fight With Rick & Morty (Before Season 7’s Kuato Episode)

Weird Rick Prime Moment Is Finally Explained By Rick & Morty Season 7’s Total Recall Parody

Rick, Morty, and Evil Morty finally face off against Rick Prime in Rick and Morty season 7, episode 5, and while they do manage to kill him, the battle is not won easily. Rick Prime pulls out a variety of weapons in an attempt to kill the trio, and Evil Morty’s eye patch scanner allows him to analyze several of them. At one point, a mutant Rick Prime emerges from Rick Prime’s chest while wielding a shotgun, with Evil Morty’s eye patch labeling it Kuato Rick.

Kuato Rick is a clear reference to the character Kuato in the movie Total Recall, but that isn’t why this Easter egg is so interesting. Rick and Morty season 7, episode 7, “Wet Kuat Amortican Summer” is a Rick and Morty episode all about Kuatos, although the characters never acknowledge that Rick Prime had one. Tons of Kuatos are shown throughout the episode, so it’s odd that none of the characters mention that Rick Prime just had one two episodes earlier.

“Wet Kuat Amortican Summer” Seemingly Explains Where Rick Prime Got His Kuato From

Although Rick and Morty never explains why Rick Prime has a Kuato, “Wet Kuat Amortican Summer” may explain where he got it from. In the episode, Summer and Kuato Morty go to an underground club for people with Kuatos, with all of the attendees bearing their own version of the mutant. However, Summer is kidnapped and wakes up to discover that Kuato Morty has been removed. As it turns out, there is a massive black market for Kuatos, with wealthy people paying to get their own.

Although it’s possible that Rick Prime could have gotten his Kuato in a way similar to Summer, it seems more likely that he bought his Kuato from this group. The Kuato sellers are surprised to see a naturally-created Kuato, meaning that it would be weird for such a rare thing to happen to Rick Prime. Instead, it seems more likely that Rick Prime bought his, with this odd thread running through both episodes of Rick and Morty.
