Ice Age: Continental Drift is set to top the box office over the weekend with an estimated $46 million take. That’s on a par with 2009’s Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs which scored $41 million, for a $196 million final total (the highest-grosser in the series). Time will tell if this franchise has life left, or if it is facing extinction – you get the drift?
The Amazing Spider-Man held-up well on its second weekend, dipping 44% . The $35 million weekend take means that the web-slinging adventure has now scored $200 million at the domestic box office. Globally the film has grossed more than $521 million. These are good numbers, but the film will fall short of the final grosses of the Sam Raimi/Tobey Maguire film at the domestic box office.
R-rated comedy hit Ted should greet Monday morning with an additional $22.1 million. That gives the Mark Wahlberg starrer an impressive $158.9 million cumulative gross.
Disney/Pixar’s Brave should bank $10.6 million over the three days, for a $195 million total. That means that the film is now on target to pass $200 million by next weekend, out-grossing Ratatouille’s $206 million final gross.
Magic Mike is on course to bank an additional $9 million, a number which would give the Channing Tatum/Matthew McConaughey starrer a $91.8 million domestic total.
Oliver Stone’s Savages should gross $8.7 million over the weekend. That would give the Taylor Kitsch/John Travolta thriller a $31 million cume. It’s solid but not great.
Madea’s Witness Protection is on track to accumulate another $5.6 million. That gives the Tyler Perry pic a total gross of $55.6 million, a number which means that it is set to become the second highest Perry directed film ever (behind the $90 million final gross of Madea Goes to Jail).
It looks like audiences don’t want to be a part of Katy Perry: Part of Me. The 3D concert film should gross an estimated $3.7 million over its second weekend, for a poor $18.5 million total.
Moonrise Kingdom should gross $3.6 million, a number which sees its gross rise to $32.2 million. The film is now the second highest-grossing film in Wes Anderson’s filmography, behind The Royal Tenenbaums’ $52 million final gross.
Madagascar: Europe’s Most Wanted crossed $200 million, after grossing another $3.5 million.
