The first six minutes of The Gifted are now available online. After Legion proved to be an out-of-the-box hit for FX earlier this year, 20th Century Fox is hoping their flagship network can find similar success. Next week, The Gifted will arrive and put a much bigger spotlight on the plight of mutants. While Legion was more of a personal and cerebral show that used mutants around the edges, The Gifted will put the race centerstage as they go on the run from the government and their Sentinel Services division.

So far, we know a number of big names from the comics will be featured, like Polaris, Blink, and Thunderbird. Together, they’ll help lead a mutant resistance that will protect new and old mutants alike from constant danger. Now, ahead of the show’s release on Monday, we can see how the fight for survival will kick off.

FOX has just posted the first six minutes of The Gifted online, allowing fans to get acquainted with the series premiere. The first episode dives right into the action, showing Blink on the run from the police. She’ll be struggling to learn the full scope of her powers when the show begins, and here we can see her attempt to summon a big enough portal to escape.

Soon enough, Blink is discovered by Eclipse, Polaris, and Thunderbird, who lead the mutant underground. Using Thunderbird’s enhanced senses and tracking ability—an upgrade from the comics—they soon locate the renegade mutant and convince her they’re on the side of the angels. We also learn that Blink has escaped from a holding facility, likely where the Sentinel Services detain mutants.

By the end of the clip, it looks as if Polaris will soon end up in the same place. It’s clear she’ll also be dealing with some rage issues, especially when it comes to Eclipse. We also see that Eclipse seems to bleed light, as his bullet wound glow ominously. With no analogue in the comics, his story will be an especially intriguing one to follow.

With FOX set to bring The Gifted to New York Comic-Con next month, we’ll probably learn even more about the future of the show soon. Already, characters Shatter and Ahab have been added to the series from the comics. Now all the show needs to do is provide some connections to the films.
