Watch Ted Lasso’s Roy Kent Sing A Muppet Christmas Carol Medley

A video of Ted Lasso‘s Roy Kent singing a medley of songs from The Muppets Christmas Carol has been unearthed. After premiering on Apple TV+ last summer, Ted Lasso has now firmly positioned itself as the streaming service’s flagship series. Jason Sudeikis stars as the titular American football coach who is unexpectedly hired to manage a Premier League football club in England known as AFC Richmond. Though he initially struggles to connect with many of the players, he ultimately wins them over with his unrelenting positivity and charisma.

One of those footballers is the wily veteran Roy Kent, played by Brett Goldstein, also a writer on the show. Known for his foul mouth and short temper, Roy eventually lightens due to Ted’s guidance and his relationship with the team’s marketing guru Keeley (Juno Temple). After retiring due to a career-ending knee injury he suffered during the season 1 finale, Roy works briefly as a pundit before Ted convinces him to rejoin the team as an assistant coach in season 2. His presence immediately improves the team, a phenomenon that is quickly dubbed the “The Roy Kent Effect.”

Now, as uncovered by Uproxx, Ted Lasso‘s own Roy Kent can be seen singing a medley of songs from the 1992 holiday classic, The Muppet Christmas Carol. Posted to the British actor’s own YouTube channel in 2017, Brett Goldstein performs various musical numbers from the movie, including “One More Sleep ’til Christmas,” “Marley and Marley,” “Thankful Heart,” and “It Feels Like Christmas.” In the description, Goldstein explains the performance was to raise money for the organization, Parkinson’s UK. Goldstein was previously known as an actor, writer, and comedian, but his role as the lovable grouch Roy Kent has elevated him to new heights of popularity. Goldstein recently won the Emmy for Oustanding Supporting Actor for his role in Ted Lasso and he could be primed for more nominations as the series continues. Fans digging up old videos is just par for the course, but Goldstein is surely pleased this one was for a good cause.

Goldstein clearly has an affinity for The Muppets, given that his Ted Lasso character has referenced them on the show. Now, thanks to this video, he can be seen performing songs from the 1992 film starring Michael Caine as Ebenezer Scrooge, whom Goldstein does a fantastic impression of. Fans are surely delighted to see this more endearing side of the actor, exemplified in his love for The Muppets.
