Watch Mark Hamill’s God Level Impression Of Harrison Ford

Mark Hamill’s god-tier impression of Harrison Ford is a must-see. A long time ago on a film set far, far away – well, Elstree Studios near London – a couple of relatively unknown actors met while making what would soon become one of the biggest movie franchises in history. That movie franchise was Star Wars, and those two fresh-faced actors were Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford, whose roles as Luke Skywalker and Han Solo would propel them to international stardom.

Making the first three Star Wars movies was a bonding experience for Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford who stayed friends long after filming the original trilogy. In fact, it’s thanks to Ford that Hamill agreed to reprise his role as Luke Skywalker in the new Star Wars sequel trilogy. Hamill was initially reluctant to re-join the Star Wars universe but after learning the curmudgeonly Ford – who famously had a love-hate relationship with Han Solo – was on board, Hamill was forced to reconsider.

It’s safe to say Hamill and Ford are pretty tight and if the old saying “imitation is the sincerest form of flattery” is anything to go by then Hamill must have a lot of love for his Star Wars co-star. During a 2019 interview on Late Night With Seth Meyers, the actor was discussing filming the first movie’s famous trash compactor scene when Luke, Han and Princess Leia found themselves in the bowels of the Death Star about to get crushed to death. This discussion prompted Hamill to do a pitch-perfect impression of Harrison Ford – gravelly drawl, deadpan delivery and all. Watch Hamill’s impersonation below, a little over a minute in.

Harrison Ford isn’t the only Star Wars cast member Mark Hamill does a great impression of – around the 3:18 mark, he mimics Anthony Daniels (AKA the voice of C-3PO) to a tee too. In fact, impressions are something of a party trick for Hamill: in this 2019 interview with Fandango All Access, he does pretty convincing impersonations of Kermit the Frog, Jeremy Irons as Scar from The Lion King and Richard Nixon.

It’s probably not too surprising that Mark Hamill has such a talent for impressions. Beyond playing Luke Skywalker, he’s probably best known for his voice work which has seen him bring characters including the Joker, Avatar: The Last Airbender’s Lord Ozai and killer doll Chucky to life. Next up he can be heard lending his voice to He-Man’s archenemy Skeletor in Kevin Smith’s forthcoming animated series Masters Of The Universe: Revelation.
