Watch: Aquaman’s Visually Stunning End Title Sequence Released Online

Aquaman‘s visually stunning end title sequence has been released and is now available to watch online. Similar to other superhero films in the DCEU and MCU, the end title sequence in Aquaman includes polished and stylized renders highlighting major locations and characters from the film.

Directed by James Wan, Aquaman reunited fans with Jason Momoa’s Arthur Curry after his stint with the World’s Finest in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Set after Steppenwolf’s failed attempt to take over the world, Aquaman unveiled DC’s half-human/half-Atlantean as he made his way to his mother’s place of origin and reclaimed his place as the rightful heir to its throne. Considering the nature of the titular character, the film featured sequences from both the surface and underwater world which posed some heavy VFX work for artists involved. In fact, that same level of VFX detail went into Aquaman’s elaborate end title sequence – which fans can now enjoy in the comfort of their home.

Filmograph, the production studio responsible for creating Aquaman’s end title sequence, released the entire clip on their site. The designers also included a brief explanation as to how they created the sequence, explaining how the “bioluminescent colors of Atlantis” and high contrast lava-like palette of the Brine Kingdom” inspired the color palette, and how their goal was to “emphasize the documented past of the kingdoms” with “meticulously-crafted frozen action moments – as if suspended underwater.”

Despite Aquaman’s impressive visuals, Wan recently spoke out against the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for not including his film in the Oscar’s VFX shortlist this year. Aquaman set a new precedent for VFX within the DCEU – with the underwater scenes, in particular – which likely prompted his reaction. Not only considering that the film is now the most successful DCEU installment to date, but that previous films in the DCEU have been heavily criticized for questionable VFX (see: Henry Cavill’s mustache-removal controversy in Justice League), Aquaman’s visuals are significant highlights in the film, warranting Wan’s response.

Aquaman is the perfect comeback film for Warner Bros. and the DCEU, effectively quashing people’s perception of the DCEU as a franchise that doesn’t know how to handle proper VFX. At the same time, it also sets the bar very high for future films in the franchise – including the sequel, which Warner Bros. is reportedly already discussing. It’s safe to say that the underwater civilization will play a major role in the future of the franchise, especially since Aquaman ended with Arthur officially becoming the king of Atlantis.
