Warzone’s Zombie-Infested Plague & Fortnite-Style Sandbox Modes Leak

It seems almost certain that Call of Duty: Warzone‘s Season One will end with the destruction of the Verdansk map alongside the introduction of two new game modes after more information about the changes leaked online. The second season of Call of Duty content for both Warzone and Black Ops Cold War has been highly anticipated by fans, with fans eagerly awaiting the latest batch of content after the release of the first season in December 2020.

The Call of Duty series has been a big target for leakers over the last few months. The most recent high-profile example revealed that the next full entry in the series following the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will have a special tie-in event in Warzone. Reliable insider Tom Henderson stated that a big in-game event will take place around August, unveiling the next Call of Duty game.

Newly mined Call of Duty: Warzone audio files seem to confirm several rumors about the battle royale mode, as well as detail two new game modes. According to the information revealed by Twitter user ZestyCODLeaks, the end of Season One will see players tasked with defending Verdansk from a horde of zombies. Afterward, the map will allegedly be destroyed and replaced with a new location that will be available starting March 11. The leak also suggests that two additional game modes are coming to Call of Duty: Warzone: the Zombies Outbreak-style game type Plague an all-new Sandbox mode reminiscent of Fortnite‘s Creative mode.

Exactly how users will be able to play these, though, is not clear. Of course, neither Activision nor Raven Software has officially confirmed any of the leaks so it’s still not certain that all the details are accurate.

While leaks might help Raven Software build anticipation for Warzone‘s next season, the game has also been on the end of a barrage of criticism in recent months. This is largely a result of a cascade of glitches and exploits that have made playing the battle royale mode more of a chore. This has included bugs that allowed players to turn invisible, see other users through walls, and even have all of their weapons and items stripped after being revived by a teammate.

It’s been taken almost as a fact for some time now that the Verdansk map was unlikely to survive the end-of-season event later this month. Two many leaks and in-game clues pointed to the fact that some major catastrophe was about to strike the area. This latest leak just adds an extra layer of certainty. However, the revelation that players might get the chance to try out two new modes will no doubt excite many users who might have grown tired of the current offerings in Call of Duty: Warzone.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC.
