Walking Dead: World Beyond Trailer Hints At Zombie Cure Discovery

A new The Walking Dead: World Beyond trailer hints that the survivors are working on a zombie cure. With the recent announcement that the flagship AMC series is set to end after a super-sized 24-episode season 11, huge changes are definitely in store for the Walking Dead media empire.

But even though the main show is set to end, there is seemingly no end in sight for the range of TWD content that is and will be available to fans. When it comes to expanding the Walking Dead universe, the next endeavor on deck is the series World Beyond, which shifts the action to Omaha, Nebraska to tell the story of a group of young survivors who’ve grown up in the post-apocalypse, who embark on a dangerous mission into zombie-infested territory and find themselves being tested in ways they never have before. In recent weeks, fans have been treated to plenty of teases about the World Beyond storyline, including more hints about the mysterious CRM group and the role they play in the new order that’s been established.

In a new trailer for World Beyond (via The Walking Dead), a few more pieces of information are dropped about what’s to come, including hints about a possible cure for the zombie plague. The trailer also features new clues about the activities of CRM, a military group whose job is to police the so-called Four Corners communities. And it turns out the CRM group may be the villains of the whole story. See the revealing trailer in the space below:

Early in the clip, Aliyah Royale’s Iris is seen talking with Annet Mahendru’s Huck about their father who is working on a cure for the disease that turned most of the population into zombies and flipped the world on its ear. As the clip reveals, Iris and Huck’s father has in fact left for New York to share information with another community in hopes of moving along the process of finding the cure, and it’s the quest to find their departed father that sends Iris, Huck and their friends into danger. It’s also revealed that the CRM or Civil Republic Military group is not happy that messages are being sent between communities and may step in to stop whatever’s going on. As fans well remember, the CRM group is the same mysterious organization that took Rick Grimes away and will presumably figure in to the action in the upcoming Rick Grimes movie (though Rick himself is not expected to make an appearance on World Beyond).

It remains to be seen how all these pieces ultimately fit together, but it’s clear World Beyond is set to expand upon a lot of elements that will be central to the Walking Dead universe going forward. As for talk of finding a cure, it’s interesting to see this angle being introduced as the other Walking Dead series have mostly focused on survival and not gotten much into the scientific angle of things, and indeed have made little effort to even explain the nature of the zombie plague (though Robert Kirkman has been willing to talk about it in interviews). It’s a big switch to see World Beyond even addressing the possibility of the disease being cured, and this indeed demonstrates how the new series is set to take things beyond the boundaries of what’s been depicted before on The Walking Dead and its sister show Fear the Walking Dead. Of course, this doesn’t mean a cure will ever be found, but at least the idea has been planted that it’s a possibility for somewhere down the road.
