Wait, We’re Getting TWO Avengers Movies In 2025?

Marvel Studios is releasing two Avengers films in 2025–Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars–but why? After the culmination of the Infinity Saga with Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, MCU moved forward with Phase 4, which doesn’t have an outing for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. It might still take a bit longer, but Marvel Studios appears to be making up for it by announcing two Avengers films to cap off Phase 6.

Kevin Feige and MCU returned to San Diego Comic-Con Hall H to lay out Marvel Studios’ plans for the next several years. With Black Panther: Wakanda Forever wrapping up MCU Phase 4, the producer unveiled the full Phase 5 slate, which noticeably still doesn’t have an Avengers title. Instead, Thunderbolts will function as its culminating movie, shifting the focus on assembling bad guys led by Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfuss). Beyond that, Feige also revealed limited information about Phase 6, which will be the final chapter of the so-called Multiverse Saga.

Among the limited details Feige shared for Phase 6 include the confirmation of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ next MCU appearances. Avengers 5 and Avengers: 6 are officially titled Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. The MCU architect didn’t talk about specifics for these projects; he also didn’t delve into narrative details for them, but the titles themselves offer clues as to what to expect from those movies. While this isn’t the first time that Marvel Studios confirmed two Avengers blockbusters in one event, what’s more interesting here is that they are both slated to release in 2025. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty takes MCU’s prime summer slot on May 2, 2025, while Avengers: Secret Wars releases just a few months after on November 7, 2025.

Following Avengers: Endgame, there was a conscious effort from Marvel Studios to focus on smaller stories, including sequels and origins, hence why there’s no Avengers movie in either Phase 4 or Phase 5. This makes sense to put a separation between the MCU’s biggest film thus far and its follow-up. On top of that, it seems like there’s a shift in Marvel Studios’ utilization of Avengers movies, only reserving them for their significant crossover events instead of focusing on the technical roster instead, like The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron did. Admittedly, releasing Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars in one year and within months of each other is a bold move, but it could be Marvel Studios’ way of making up for the long wait on another Avengers story. In any case, if Avengers 5 and Avengers 6 are narratively linked with each other, it’s for the best that they release not too far apart so as not to risk inadvertent spoiler leaks. It allows them to run a tighter marketing campaign for Avengers: Secret Wars — the next Avengers: Endgame, as well.

For now, Marvel Studios will continue to focus on rebuilding the MCU by introducing new characters and developing already existing players like Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), and Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), among others. These will all build towards Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars in 2025. For what it’s worth, given how packed MCU’s existing slate is, there won’t be any scarcity of Marvel stories in the next few years while the wait for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ inevitable re-assembly continues.
