Wait, Is Nico Di Angelo In Percy Jackson Episode 6? Hidden Cameo Theory Explained

Warning: This article contains spoilers for Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1, episode 6 and the Percy Jackson book series.

Audiences are curious whether the hidden cameo of Nico Di Angelo in Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 6 is real or not. Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 1 has done a good job at planting teases for future events from Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson book series. Percy Jackson episode 6’s Easter eggs and hidden details are no different, as they include hints about Grover’s Pan quest. The episode focuses on Percy, Annabeth, and Grover’s time at the Lotus Casino in Las Vegas as they seek help from Hermes to gain passage to the Underworld.

In terms of cameos, the Disney+ series has already made changes to the books to some extent. For instance, Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 6 reveals Hermes’ return after a small cameo in episode 3, which is a new addition to the story. Following in the trend of early introductions in the TV adaptation, hopes of seeing the two young demigods fathered by Hades, Nico and Bianca Di Angelo, is understandable, especially at the Lotus Casino of all places.

Nico & Bianca Di Angelo’s History At Percy Jackson’s Lotus Casino Explained

Nico and Bianca Di Angelo are primary characters from the third book, The Titan’s Curse. However, their stories precede Percy’s since they’ve been around since the 1930s. As children of one of the Big Three, namely Hades, Nico and Bianca weren’t safe, so Hades sent them to the Lotus Casino after having their memories wiped. This ties into the Pact of the Big Three, which involves the three gods agreeing to never sire demigod children, who are believed to be a threat because of how powerful they could be.

Because the Lotus Casino also dampens memories and time moves much slower, Nico and Bianca remain teenagers despite having been at the casino for 70 years. To add to this, the memory-wipe Hades instilled also removed their knowledge of their mortal mother, who Zeus killed when he attacked them while they were at a hotel in Washington D.C. after moving from Italy to the United States. Therefore, Nico and Bianca are both at the casino at the same time as Percy and his friends.

Percy Jackson’s Lotus Casino Book Change Erases 1 Crucial Failure In The Trio’s Quest

A few major changes from the book are made in Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 6, including one that undoes an important plot point.

Nico May Be Saying “Bianca” In The Background Of The Kids’ Gaming Area

Nico and Bianca are already at the Lotus Casino when Percy and his friends arrive, and viewers suggest a small hint of this through the audio. Around the time Grover is shown in the gaming area where he and other kids are playing VR games, a voice is heard saying, “Bianca.” Given that Nico is the only one with Bianca canonically at the casino, audiences believe this is Nico speaking. Although no specific characters are focused on, the audio reference alone could be a subtle way to set up Nico and Bianca’s appearance in potential future seasons.

Moreover, after Percy and Annabeth find Grover, they head out to a parking garage where they search for Hermes’ car. This garage is filled with vehicles that look like older car models, which could be from around the time Nico and Bianca originally came to the casino. Additionally, the cars not all being modern further emphasizes how long some Lotus Casino visitors have been there.

Why It’s Better That Nico Doesn’t Appear In Percy Jackson Episode 6

The Titan's Curse Book Cover

Given that his first appearance is only in the third book, with an even bigger role in the fourth and fifth books, Nico joining the Percy Jackson and the Olympians cast so early is unlikely. What’s more, with subsequent seasons yet to be confirmed by Disney+, casting for a minor background cameo would’ve been premature. Plus, Nico’s appearance wouldn’t help the main story for season 1 since he doesn’t have a direct role in Percy’s quest at this stage. Thus, including him would merely have been fan-service.

Nico’s first on-screen appearance should mirror the importance of his character. He plays an integral role in Percy’s story since he blames him for Bianca’s death in The Titan’s Curse, defeats the Minos in The Battle of the Labyrinth, and suggests that Percy bathe in the River Styx to be able to defeat Kronos in The Last Olympian. Regardless of how realistic a Nico appearance in Percy Jackson and the Olympians episode 6 could’ve been given that, in canon, he is in the Lotus Casino at the time, saving his first appearance will have a greater impact story-wise.
