Vincent D’Onofrio Won’t Rule Out Kingpin In MCU Spider-Man Movies

It looks like Vincent D’Onofrio is leaving the door open to potentially appearing in a future Spider-Man movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The former Law & Order: Criminal Intent actor was the first person to portray a Marvel Comics villain in Netflix’s corner of the MCU by appearing as Wilson Fisk, aka Kingpin, in Daredevil season 1. Since Fisk was imprisoned at the end of the season, so D’Onofrio had a reduced role in the series’ second season, but he’s already slated to return in bigger manner in season 3.

Fisk makes his long-anticipated return this month when Daredevil season 3 releases on Netflix, but some fans can’t help but wonder what it would be like if the iconic supervillain moved out of Hell’s Kitchen and took part in the rest of the shared universe. After all, as many non-comic book readers may not realize, Kingpin was originally one of Spider-Man’s main villains (part of his notable rogues’ gallery) before eventually turning his eyes towards the Man Without Fear. But could that change on the movie side at some point in the future?

In a response to a tweet about Vincent D’Onofrio appearing in Daredevil season 3, therefore meaning he couldn’t appear in an MCU movie since Marvel TV and Marvel Studios never crossover their respective corners of the shared universe, all the actor had to say was, “Who says?” It’s a simple response, but its implications are far-reaching if he’s saying what fans think he’s saying – that there’s at least a chance he could appear on the big screen.

Vincent D’Onofrio Won’t Rule Out Kingpin In MCU Spider-Man Movies

While this certainly shouldn’t be taken as confirmation that Kingpin will appear in a future MCU movie, let alone next year’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, it’s at least good to know that the actor himself isn’t outright stating that he wouldn’t do it – or that it’s completely out the realm of plausibility, at least to him. That’s always one of the first steps anyway, getting the stars themselves on board to do a major project like this. If it were to happen, though, it could set a major precedent in the ongoing MCU, that the shared universe is truly… shared.

Aside from some brief appearances from movie characters like Lady Sif and Maria Hill during the early years of ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., there hasn’t been any real crossover between the television and movie sides of the universe, and that divide has only gotten bigger as time moved on. Even the various TV shows on other networks fail to acknowledge the fact that they all exist in the same world that was recently decimated by Thanos and his legion. While that’s something that most likely won’t change anytime in the near future, at least D’Onofrio is up for making that difference himself.
