Vincent D’Onofrio Teases Wilson Fisk’s Return As The MCU’s Kingpin

Vincent D’Onofrio teases his upcoming return to the MCU as Daredevil: Born Again’s villainous Wilson Fisk a.k.a. Kingpin. D’Onofrio first made his debut in the role in the original 2015 Netflix television series adaptation of Daredevil, opposite Charlie Cox as the show’s titular blind-lawyer-turned-superhero. Praised for his grounded and terrifying performance of the New York City crime lord, he was also nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Supporting TV Actor for his initial tenure in the role. However, when Daredevil was cancelled by Netflix in 2018, fans were quick to petition to have the show revived on another service. Unfortunately, though, complex rights issues prevented Marvel Studios from using the show’s characters in any other capacity for a further two years. When that time period finally lapsed, D’Onofrio ultimately made his triumphant return to the MCU proper via last year’s Hawkeye series; at the same time, Cox made his own return to the role of Matt Murdock in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Following their respective cameos, both D’Onofrio and Cox are now expected to reunite in the upcoming Disney+ Echo series before moving on to a brand-new, 18-episode Daredevil series, titled Daredevil: Born Again.Related: Kingpin Is The Perfect Villain To Fix Phase 4’s Crossover ProblemWith Kingpin’s future in the MCU now looking brighter than ever, D’Onofrio takes to Twitter to hype up his imminent return to the character. Posting an image of a metal flask with the name Fisk emblazoned on its side, the post sent fans into a flurry of excitement. Check out his original post below:

D’Onofrio’s return as Fisk is a definite boon, not only for fans of the original Netflix series, but for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a whole. Over the years, the MCU has often been criticized for creating a series of disposable, one-shot villains that are either redeemed or rarely seen again. Having D’Onofrio reprise the role of Fisk has the potential to give the franchise a much-needed, recurring, street-level villain that has the potential to appear across multiple shows and films. While Fisk is often directly connected with Cox’s Daredevil, Kingpin is also a major Spider-Man villain in the original comics, and fans would certainly relish the opportunity to see D’Onofrio face off against Tom Holland’s Spidey at some point in the future.

In the meantime, however, D’Onofrio’s dance card is already booked solid with his upcoming appearances on Echo and Daredevil: Born Again. Moreover, Marvel has already revealed that Cox will be appearing as Daredevil in an upcoming episode of She-Hulk, so perhaps this latest tease may also hint at an earlier-than-expected reunion between Fisk and Murdock. However it plays out, Daredevil fans will no doubt be happy to see more of D’Onofrio’s Kingpin whenever and wherever Marvel may choose to use him.
