Vin Diesel Reveals ‘Fast & Furious 6’ Poster; New ‘Riddick’ Image

Vin Diesel continues assuming the responsibilities of Universal Picture’s marketing department, by releasing both a new poster for Fast & Furious 6 – ahead of the Super Bowl XLVII 60-second preview airing later – and yet another image from the Pitch Black and Chronicles of Riddick trilogy finale, simply titled Riddick (through his official Facebook page).

The actor demonstrated social media savvy throughout last year, keeping fan buzz alive by periodically unveiling additional publicity stills and set photos from his car-racing and sci-fi sequels in 2013. Universal is positioning each as a franchise-concluding event; though, audience intere$t will determine whether or not Dominic Toretto and Ricard B. Riddick continue to run/ride free for another day.

Universal’s Fast & Furious 6 synopsis reveals Dom and his band of thrill-driving miscreants accepting one final job, in exchange for Federal Agent Hobbs (Dwayne “(I’m Still) The Rock” Johnson) pardoning all previous law violations. This forces Dom to confront a past he’d left behind, as his ex-flame Letty (Michelle Rodriguez) – long believed dead – is second-in-command of the criminal outfit Dom’s aiming to stop. Screenwriter Chris Morgan and director Justin Lin are returning after the last three installments, bringing some emotional closure to the members of Dom’s multi-ethnic brotherhood (and moving into Euro-heist thriller terrain).

That cloudy sky from the Fast Five poster is tweaked here, with the low angle and tagline alluding to a final destination in sight for our anti-heroes; though, a seventh installment has been in the planning for some time, so this might not be the literal (and metaphorical) end of the road that marketing wants everyone to believe.

Fast & Furious 6 opens in theaters (including IMAX) on May 24th, 2013.

Riddick

That writer-director David Twohy is even making another Riddick live-action movie is something of a miracle, following a mid-production shutdown and nine years after Chronicles of Riddick‘s attempts to expand the bare-bones mythos of Pitch Black resulted in a sequel barely able to cover its $105 million budget. Fortunately, Diesel never stopped championing the project and continues to keep hype alive by releasing photo after photo (despite the absence of even a teaser trailer to date).

Riddick goes back to the R-Rated blueprints of Pitch Black, dropping Diesel on a sun-scorched planet to confront terrestrial (alien) predators, packs of mercenaries wanting his head and Necromonger Commander Vaako (Karl Ubran) on the hunt. Much like Dom in Fast & Furious 6, the “alpha Furyan” plots against his enemies in an effort to find redemption and save his home planet from imminent destruction. However, he may have to pay the ultimate price to accomplish those valiant (and not-so-scrupulous) ends, as Diesel teases by commenting on the image below, “The fate of the Alpha Furyan…”
