Verizon’s Cheapest Unlimited 5G Plan Is Now Even Cheaper

Verizon has announced a discount on its cheapest 5G unlimited plan to make it even more lucrative for new users. Verizon is the second-largest mobile carrier in the U.S., with a market share of 30.43 percent of wireless subscriptions as of Q3 2022, according to Statista, behind AT&T’s market-leading 44.79 percent, with T-Mobile rounding out the top three. All major network carriers offer a slew of 5G plans for their customers at various price points, and Verizon’s latest move could give them an advantage over its competitors.

Verizon’s new ‘Welcome Unlimited’ plan comes with a $5 discount per line and is available to people signing up for one to four lines as part of the family plan. This will decrease the cost to $25 per line for people with four lines, $35 per line for three lines, $50 per line for two-line plans, and $60 for single-line subscriptions. The plan offers unlimited text, talk, and 5G data for new Verizon subscribers.

Verizon’s Welcome Unlimited plan is available for users who switch to Verizon from other carriers and bring their own devices. The company is also offering a three-year price guarantee, so users won’t have to pay higher charges until at least Dec. 2025. A $5 discount per line may not seem like much. But the reduced costs will help users with four lines save $20 per month, adding up to a total saving of $720 over three years.

Verizon will also include an additional $180 promo credit per phone (when adding four new smartphones), which will be available over 36 months if users sign up for the Welcome Unlimited plan and bring their own devices. The company says that the available discount is a limited-time offer, but there’s no word on how long it will be valid. Other caveats in the fine print say that new subscribers will have to sign up for Auto Pay and paper-free billing to get the discounted price. Verizon will also void the three-year price guarantee if any of the four lines are upgraded, canceled, or changed to an ineligible plan. The deal will go live on Friday, Dec. 23.

Verizon’s cheapest plan does not come with all the bells and whistles offered with the other subscriptions, like access to mobile hotspots or 5G Ultra Wideband connectivity that’s significantly faster than sub-6GHz connections. However, Verizon is offering six months of Disney+, Apple Arcade or Google Play Pass, and Apple Music to all new subscribers. Overall, Verizon’s Welcome Unlimited plan doesn’t offer many value-added services, but it makes a compelling case for people willing to overlook the niceties to save a decent chunk of money.
