Venom 2 Post-Credits Means He Can Finally Get His Biggest Missing Element

Venom 2 Post-Credits Means He Can Finally Get His Biggest Missing Element

Warning: Spoilers for Venom: Let There Be Carnage

The unexpected curveball thrown by the end-credits scene of Venom: Let There Be Carnage means that Marvel’s Lethal Protector could now finally get a key element that’s been missing in his two movies. Venom 2 brought the long-awaited big-screen showdown of symbiotes, with Tom Hardy’s Venom battling Cletus Kasady, AKA Carnage (Woody Harrelson). This wasn’t the only ride the movie took Eddie and Venom on, however.

In Venom 2‘s end-credits scene, Eddie and Venom are vacationing on a topical island resort, when they suddenly find themselves transported to another universe. More specifically, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as seen when Venom sees the news report by J. Jonah Jameson (JK Simmons) from the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, with Peter Parker (Tom Holland) being framed for the death of Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal). Venom seeing Spidey as an alleged murderer on the news and his response to the newscast sets up an inevitable confrontation between them in the future of Holland’s Spider-Man, but it could also mean that Venom may finally get his trademark spider emblem.

With the Venom movies taking place in a separate universe from the MCU, both movies have omitted Venom’s spider emblem, due to the absence of Spider-Man. In the comics, the symbiote bonded with Eddie Brock after a period of being Peter Parker’s new black suit, and it carried over certain traits of Spidey’s to Eddie, like web-shooting while also retaining the more menacing spider symbol on his chest. There’s never been any reason for Venom to have a spider on his chest in the Venom movies, but that could now change.

Venom 2 Post-Credits Means He Can Finally Get His Biggest Missing Element

Venom 2‘s end credits scene sets up audience expectations for Venom and Spidey to meet, which could theoretically happen as soon as Spider-Man: No Way Home. Of course, it’ll be a different sort of first encounter from what they’ve traditionally had, including in Venom’s big-screen debut in Spider-Man 3. Still, with a Spidey-Venom meeting now inevitable, the Venom movies and the MCU have the necessary mechanism to bestow Venom’s spider emblem to him.

How that could end up happening is more open to speculation. Hypothetically, the Venom symbiote might temporarily leave Eddie and bond with Peter, before returning to his original host and bringing a spider symbol back with him. In any case, thanks to the end-credits scene of Venom: Let There Be Carnage, however Marvel and Sony may choose to go about it, including a (non-villainous) Sinister Six-Venom connection, they now have the perfect opening to stamp Venom’s famed sinister spider emblem on his chest through his meeting with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man.
