Upload: 5 Things We Want From Season 2 (& 5 Things We Don’t Want)

Amazon Prime’s new series Upload is widely successful. Due to its popularity, the show was renewed for a second season only one week after its release. The first season followed a man named Nathan after he is uploaded into a virtual afterlife following his suspicious death. The world-building and captivating characters hooked fans, as did the central mystery of the show.

Fans have many questions they want answered in season 2. It seems there are several paths the show could take and everyone is curious to see what comes next. Let’s take a look at 5 things fans want from season 2 and 5 things they don’t want.

Don’t Want: Dylan In Grown-Up Body

Upload: 5 Things We Want From Season 2 (& 5 Things We Don’t Want)

Dylan died when he was young but would have been 19 had he continued to live. He is frustrated by being trapped in a child’s body, feeling that his age should reflect the number of years he has been a sentient being. He hopes that he will be aged in the update.

But Dylan doesn’t feel like a 19-year-old, he feels like a child. Certain immature and lewd comments he makes are forgiven because he seems young. These jokes wouldn’t land the same way coming from a teenager. Besides, Rhys Slack is doing a great job portraying the character and we would hate to see him replaced. Save the update for when Rhys begins to grow too old to pass for a child!

Want: A.I. Guy Improves With Update

AI Guy from Upload wearing a plaid shirt and cowboy hat, smiling at someone.

A.I. guy is one of the least helpful virtual assistants ever. He frequently annoys the main characters and while the bit was funny for a while, it can easily become overplayed. The show already hinted that this character may have matured some during the upload.

Hopefully, the show continues to show new developments in this character. It would great if he became a more developed individual, like Janet in The Good Place, instead of just a punchline.

Don’t Want: Dave’s Death

David looks at Nora from hospital bed in Upload

Nora’s father Dave is one of the most genuine characters on the show. He and Nora have a beautiful relationship and their scenes together are always heartwarming. Unfortunately, Dave is terminally ill. Nora spent much of the first season trying to convince her father to upload, but he remains emphatic that he does not want to upload as he would like to spend the afterlife with his deceased wife.

It seems likely that this character will be forced to make a final decision soon, but fans don’t want this just yet. This character has more to give and choosing to upload seems unlikely.

Want: More Nevaeh

Ingrid, Nathan, and Navaeh hugging on the floor in Upload.

Fans instantly fell in love with Nathan’s niece Nevaeh. This young girl is wise beyond her years and is incredibly kind. She visited Nathan in the afterlife and even had a touching sleepover with Ingrid.

With Ingrid and Nathan both uploaded, we are hoping this character doesn’t disappear for good. While we certainly don’t want her to upload, we would like to see more of her visiting them or sharing information from the outside world. With Nora heading off the grid and Ingrid uploaded, Nevaeh may be the best link Nathan has to the outside world.

Don’t Want: Ingrid-Nathan-Nora Love Triangle

Upload ending explained Ingrid why killed herself

Love triangles are a tired trope. In the first season, Nathan’s relationship with Ingrid was barely depicted. Nora and Ingrid only had only one interaction and they got along really well.

When Nathan broke up with Ingrid, it seemed like this love triangle was coming to a close. With Ingrid now uploaded, the dynamics of these relationships will certainly become more complicated. But these characters will be far more interesting if they aren’t reduced to a silly love triangle.

Want: More Clues To The Mystery

Amazon Upload who killed Nathan

As Upload is the new obsession of many, fans hope this show will continue for years to come. But the central mystery is what is currently propelling the plot forward.

While new clues to the mystery need to be revealed, the whole picture shouldn’t be explained next season. We certainly don’t want the mystery to drag out for too long, but inching closer to the truth without spelling out the whole story is the way to go.

Don’t Want: Aleesha-Luke Romance

Aleesha and Like talking to one another, Aleesha's arms out to the sides on Upload.

Aleesha and Luke have a delightful relationship. The two are engaged in a playful battle and enjoy getting a rise out of each other. Fans watched this relationship develop as the two grew closer over the first season. By the end, they seemed to have reached an unspoken understanding of each other.

It is clear that Luke is desperate for love and affection and Aleesha is an avid support of Nora and Nathan. It seems as though the show may be gearing up for a romantic relationship between these two but that would be a huge mistake. Let these two have a wonderful playful friendship without bringing romance into the picture.

Want: The Luds

Several references have been made to the elusive “Luds.” This seems to be a name given to a group of people who protest the excessive use of technology in universe. It seems as though the major technology corporations blame the Luds for anything that goes wrong. At the end of the season, Nora is shown to be heading off the grid with Byron to live amount the Luds.

Any dystopian story needs a powerful resistance. It will be interesting to see the way this group of individuals live and what their plans are. These characters will likely have some insights into some scary truths behind the virtual afterlife system. There is even the possibility that a character we know could secretly be working with the resistance group.

Don’t Want: Ingrid Uploaded For Nathan

Allegra Edwards as Ingrid during the modern love interview in Upload

The season finale ended with Ingrid’s appearance in Lakeview. The character tells Nathan that she uploaded to be with him, but fans really hope this isn’t true. Ingrid is a much more complex character than first meets the eye and it seemed like she was gearing up to have a major role in the mystery.

She is ambitious and enjoys control. It doesn’t make sense that Ingrid would confront her father and then immediately decide to upload, essentially committing suicide. We have to believe there is more to the story.

Want: More Time With 2 Gigs

The 2 gigs were introduced in the middle of the first season. It seemed like Nathan and Nora were going to visit these individuals, attempting to make their time in Lakeview better. However, fans did not see the 2 gigs again until the finale when Nathan decided to downgrade his plan.

Fans want to learn more about life among the 2 gigs and get to know these characters better. It will be interesting to see the perspective of these characters and their feelings towards Lakeview. Life among the 2 gigs also has higher stakes, as is evidenced in the finale.
