Unsolved Mysteries Update: Alonzo Brooks Body Exhumed By Police Continuing Investigation

Alonzo Brooks, whose demise is a featured subject in the Unsolved Mysteries reboot, has been exhumed by police continuing an investigation. Currently streaming on Netflix, the “No Ride Home” episode examines the mysterious events that surround the evening Brooks spent at a party, and ultimately, reveals his unfortunate fate. Hosted by the late Robert Stack, the original Unsolved Mysteries aired in 1987 and featured phenomenal, unbelievable, and unsolvable experiences of ordinary people.

Last month, Netflix released a fresh batch of real-life mysteries with the premiere of the Unsolved Mysteries reboot. Helmed by Shawn Levy (Stranger Things), the newest season of Unsolved Mysteries features six spellbinding episodes and new chances for viewers to solve the case. The fourth episode in the season, “No Ride Home”, focuses on Brooks. In 2004, 23-year-old Brooks and his friends attended a house party near La Cygne, Kansas. At the party, Brooks allegedly got into an altercation after being the target of racial remarks. According to Brooks’ friend Justin Sprague – who drove with Brooks to the party – Sprague left the party after being reassured Brooks would get a ride home from another friend. Tragically, Brooks never made it home and his body wasn’t found until one month later. Now, it appears police are taking a closer look at the Brooks case.

Per CNN, law enforcement has exhumed Brooks’ grave at the Topeka Cemetery. FBI spokeswoman Bridget Patton confirmed that they exhumed Brooks’ body “as part of an ongoing investigation”. However, Patton offered no further details. A theory featured in the “No Ride Home” episode is that Brooks, who was of African-American and Mexican descent, was the victim of a hate crime. Physical evidence from the case includes Brooks’ boots and hat, found near the location of the party. Recovered from a pile of branches in a creek, Brooks’ body has remained the biggest mystery, as the cause of death remains undetermined.

Enveloped in a season of stories that includes a hairdresser disappearing in just 13 minutes, UFO sightings, and a House of Terror, Brooks’ story has reportedly pulled in the most tips. Last month, the FBI offered a $100,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in Brooks’ case. As it stands, it appears the FBI has reasons to exhume Brooks’ body and give further attention to the case.

Despite numerous revamps, Unsolved Mysteries lost traction with viewers and experienced a decline in ratings after being shuffled around networks. Sans a host, the Unsolved Mysteries reboot appears to be a winner for Netflix. To date, the show has received numerous credible tips and has left viewers anxious for more. Brooks’ story remains one of the most heartbreaking tales of the series. However, the recent developments of the investigation could lead to some closure for Brooks’ family. Perhaps one of the upcoming new episodes of Unsolved Mysteries will feature an update in the Alonzo Brooks’ case.
