What Happened In Undead Unluck Episode 16?
A major antagonist has been revealed right at season 1’s climax
In Undead Unluck episode 16, Revolution, the Union received their latest quests: defeat Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter, the UMA embodying the four seasons, with failure to do so resulting in the penalty of UMA Revolution. Before any sort of strategy could be discussed, Billy suddenly talked about nuking them, and when Tatiana pointed out that innocent people would be killed, he accused Juiz and the Union of being too weak to fight God. From there, things suddenly escalated to Billy attacking everyone, revealing himself as the leader of Under, and using Burn, Rip, and Latla to steal the Roundtable.
Everyone in the Union quickly tried to stop Billy from stealing the Roundtable, but they were all forced back by Billy somehow copying their Negator abilities, even though Tatiana insisted his power didn’t work like that. From there, Billy tried to get Tatiana to join him, but after Fuuko involved herself, it became clear that Tatiana wouldn’t go with Billy, and he declared her an enemy. Billy and Under then started making their way out of the Union with the Roundtable, and the episode ended with Andy wanting Fuuko to give him a big stroke of Unluck to stop them.

Undead Unluck’s Big Traitor Reveal Is Great
While the reveal of Billy being a traitor to the Union might be sudden with how little involvement Billy’s had so far in the story, that’s a big part of why it’s so effective. Having a traitor plotline so early into the narrative completely abandons the idea of things being a typical shonen anime, and that can work to quickly carve out a unique identity for itself and make it truly stand out from its contemporaries. That sort of writing would be great to see, and it will be great to see what Undead Unluck does to play into that, going forward.
