Teen Titans will be one of the new DC Universe’s movies, and the project could serve to bring two superhero teams to the universe instead of one. After James Gunn had commented on rumors that a Teen Titans movie was in the works for the DCU in February, not giving a definitive answer either way, the mystery has been resolved. A Teen Titans movie is reportedly in development for the new DC Universe, with the project being penned by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow writer Ana Nogueira, which shows how DC is confident in that upcoming DCU movie.
So far, there has been no confirmation about which heroes will be part of the Teen Titans roster in the DCU. As the team has had several different formations over the years, Gunn and the DC team will have endless possibilities for who will be part of the project, with the Teen Titans franchise allowing for many heroes to pass through the team with each movie. With such a long comic book history, the DCU movie could use the Teen Titans’ members to bring two teams to the universe at once.

DC’s Teen Titans Movie Can Connect To Multiple Projects
Many Of The DCU’s Most Important Heroes Could Be Teased That Way
Teen Titans has the potential to touch on one of the major questions surrounding the DCU. With the cast from the DCEU’s Justice League all reportedly leaving their roles, the new universe will have to choose new actors for DC’s most popular heroes. David Corenswet has already replaced Henry Cavill as Superman, with a new Batman actor set to take on the role of Bruce Wayne in The Brave and the Bold. However, there has been no word on the DCU debuts of major characters like Wonder Woman, the Flash, and Aquaman.
That is where Teen Titans comes in. The movie should include many characters who have connections to DC’s biggest heroes. In the comics, the Teen Titans have characters who are part of the superhero families led by Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, the Flash, and more. The DCU’s Teen Titans movie could be used to help advance the franchise’s world-building in a major way, and that could even lead to the film introducing two different versions of the team — which would be the best way to go about it based on what is known from a certain project.

The DCU Could Expand With Two Superhero Teams Before The Justice League Arrives
The Titans Could Exist Separately
The DCU’s Teen Titans movie could also include the original members of the team from the comics, separating it into two rosters — the Teen Titans and the Titans. Batman’s reboot movie in the DCU, The Brave and the Bold, has revealed some major details that support the Titans’ first movie appearance since the original members of the team formed the Teen Titans back in 1964. According to DCU creative chief James Gunn, The Brave and the Bold will focus on Damian Wayne, the youngest of the four male Robins, and will include other members from the Bat-Family.
It’s hard to imagine that the Teen Titans’ first movie would not feature the team’s most famous leader: Dick Grayson. With Damian in the picture for the DCU, that would mean that Dick Grayson is quite a bit older, likely already a young adult going by his solo superhero persona — Nightwing. To keep some space from the DCEU’s Justice League, the new universe could choose to focus on heroes related to the JLA’s roster, and having two teams with characters like Nightwing, Robin, Kid Flash, Wonder Girl, Aqualad, Superboy, and more would be perfect to set up the Justice League.

The DCU Can Diversify Its Output
Nightwing could lead the older, original members of the team as the Titans, while Damian, as Robin, could be the leader of the Teen Titans, like has happened in the comics. That move would allow the DCU to keep exploring different kinds of stories. From the announced projects, DC will have entries like the Game of Thrones-inspired political show Paradise Lost, the mystery series Lanterns in the vein of True Detective, and more.
By using Teen Titans to set up a Titans spinoff, the DCU would be getting two very different franchises. Teen Titans could include Damian Wayne and other young heroes, making the team’s movies coming-of-age stories. With the Titans, DC would have experienced young adult heroes who are trying to find their place in the DCU while fighting alongside their childhood friends, creating an emotional and more mature franchise. By introducing the two teams, Teen Titans could help keep the DCU’s stories fresh.
