Over a decade after the show was canceled, America Ferrera comments on Ugly Betty’s revival chances. Ferrera starred as the eponymous Betty Suarez in the titular sitcom, which ran for four seasons on ABC. Though it had a significant following in the first three seasons, Ugly Betty was ultimately canceled in 2010 due to lower ratings during its final season. Since its premature end, there have been calls for the show’s potential revival.
After 13 years, Ferrera addresses the chances of an Ugly Betty revival. Speaking with ET Online, the actor said that she still has this desire to revive the show. “I think there has been like a deep desire there for a long time because our Ugly Betty family is so close and so we love each other so much.

Ugly Betty kicked off season 1 in 2006 when Ferrera was 22 years old. At the time, the young actor had very few starring roles, the most prominent being the 2005 movie The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. As a result, Ugly Betty is considered a launching point in Ferrera’s career, so it makes sense why the role is still so dear to her after all these years.
Ferrera scored two Emmy nominations for her portrayal of Betty, one of which she won for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 2007. Since Ugly Betty, Ferrera has had a successful career, including Amy on the hit NBC show Superstore and a prominent role in this year’s Barbie.
