Tyrese’s Fast & Furious Feud With The Rock Is Over

Tyrese Gibson has put an end to his Fast & Furious feud with The Rock, after talking it out with one of Dwayne Johnson’s associates. The pair’s very public face-off began shortly after Fast & Furious 9 was pushed back to 2020. It will be preceded in 2019 by a spinoff film starring Johnson’s Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham’s Deckard Shaw.

Gibson was quick to slam The Rock, calling out the former wrestler and posturing on whether a Hobbs-centric film would be “another Baywatch.” Never one to quietly take a beating, The Rock retaliated by slamming Gibson’s latest album. This only made matters worse, prompting Gibson to lash out again, saying, “I just got a problem with Dwayne; it appears he’s being selfish. It appears that he’s so focused on furthering his own self-interest”.

Vin Diesel tried to calm the situation down, saying the delay isn’t anyone’s fault, but Gibson wasn’t having any of it. Yesterday, Gibson insulted The Rock again, calling him a “clown”, among other things. Gibson made it clear that, if The Rock is in Fast & Furious 9, he doesn’t want to be. Now, after having talked it out with one of Johnson’s associates, Gibson appears to have calmed down:

Want you guys to know I️ had a real Heart to Heart with one of Dewayne’s associates and this will be my last post about him…….. I️ repeat my last…. I️ respect the associate who called.. My story will never change I️ was never DJ’s Co-Star… I’m Shayla’s Father first…. Justin Lin is back in the driver seat that’s exciting cause it going to feel like the true #FastFamily all over again….. When we see Justin we see Paul….. The Rock’s associate succeeded in convincing Gibson to stop the feud. Gibson’s statement – posted alongside a picture of him, Johnson and Diesel sharing a friendly embrace –  explains that a lengthy “heart to heart” was had between Gibson and The Rock’s unnamed associate, whom Gibson expresses “respect” for. Gibson even showed some enthusiasm for Fast and Furious 9, which has attached franchise veteran Justin Lin as its director.

However, you’ll notice that Gibson hasn’t apologized for anything he said; nor has he expressed any respect for The Rock himself. Gibson still refers to Johnson as the misspelled “Dewayne” in his post. He also says “My story will never change” and “I was never DJ’s co-star.” Reading between the lines, it’s easy to assume there is still some resentment there. Still, Gibson has decided to let the public feud die, which is probably a wise move on his part.

This Fast & Furious feud has been weird to watch, but it seems to be over, at least for the time being. It will be interesting to see what kind of relationship The Rock and Gibson have when Fast & Furious 9 eventually starts filming.
