Twisters Is Already Improving Cary Elwes’ Twister Character With Glen Powell

A new trailer for the highly-anticipated disaster movie Twisters, which premiered during Super Bowl LVIII, already shows clear improvements from one of the original film’s main characters. The Twisters trailer sets up Glen Powell’s Tyler Owens to be the same as Cary Elwes’ Jonas Miller in Twister, a stormhunter with a reputation for being cocky and a piece of work.

Powell, who is best known for his breakout role in Top Gun: Maverick, is coming off the surprising box office success of Anyone But You, a romantic comedy he stars in with Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney. Twisters is currently expected to release in theaters on July 19, 2024.

The first look at Powell’s character hints that while Owens is certainly a showboat, he looks like he will be a more likable character, which is a great improvement on the original Academy Award-winning movie. It’s a smart creative decision, considering it would be uninspired just to repeat the same story that Cary Elwes’ character had in Twister.
