Turning Red follows Meilin “Mei” Lee, a 13-year-old Chinese-Canadian who is confident in herself and whose relationship with her mother is changing as she gets older, with disparate interests, friends she’d rather hang out with, and a need to explore things beyond her mother’s overprotective and watchful eyes.

Mei (or fondly known to by her mother as Mei Mei) is a dutiful daughter and an excitable adolescent who loves her friends and the boy band 4*Town. Mei is voiced by actress Rosalie Chiang, who was previously in two short films, Soiled and The Interns, as well as a guest-star in the TV series Clique Wars. Turning Red marks her first feature debut.

Sandra Oh As Ming Lee

Ming is Mei’s overprotective and somewhat overbearing mother who runs the largest Chinese temple in Toronto. Ming is voiced by Sandra Oh, who is best known for playing Dr. Christina Yang on the medical drama Grey’s Anatomy and Eve Polastri in Killing Eve. Oh has also been in Netflix’s The Chair, Amazon’s animated series Invincible, Raya and the Last Dragon, and She-Ra and the Princesses of Power.

Ava Morse As Miriam

Miriam is one of Mei’s friends who is always encouraging her. Miriam is voiced by Ava Morse, who previously voiced the character Ava in Ron’s Gone Wrong, and guest-starred in TV series like Somebody Somewhere and Chicago P.D.

Maitreyi Ramakrishnan as Priya

Priya is Mei’s Indo-Canadian friend who has a deadpan line delivery. Priya is voiced by Maitreyi Ramakrishnan, who is best known for playing Devi in the Netflix comedy Never Have I Ever, which was her first starring role. The series has been renewed for season 3 and season 4, which will be its last.

Hyein Park As Abby

Abby is Mei’s Korean-Canadian friend who always has Mei’s back and thinks she’s super cute as the red panda. Abby is voiced by Hyein Park, who is primarily a storyboard artist for Pixar and has worked on films like Toy Story 4, the short film Bao, and Soul. Turning Red marks her debut as a voice actress.

Orion Lee as Jin Lee – Jin Lee is Mei’s father and Ming’s husband. Orion Lee is best known for his roles in First Cow, the James Bond movie Skyfall, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Wai Ching Ho as Mei’s grandmother – Wei Ching Ho plays Ming’s mother and Mei’s grandmother. She’s a strict woman who is easily disappointed. The actress is best known for playing Madame Gao in Marvel’s Daredevil, The Defenders, and Iron Fist. She was also in Hustlers and has guest-starred on many TV series.

James Hong as Mr. Gao – Mr. Gao works at the temple and is a part of Mei’s neighborhood. James Hone previously voiced Mr. Ping in the Kung Fu Panda franchise and has done voice work for Star Wars: Visions, Sherlock Gnomes, and Star Wars: Rebels.

Tristan Allerick Chen as Tyler – Tyler is Mei’s classmate who isn’t exactly nice to her at first but loves the red panda. Tristen Allerick Chen has been in WandaVision and has voiced characters in Ron’s Gone Wrong and Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

Jordan Fisher as Robaire – Robaire is one of the members of the boy band 4*Town and its lead singer. Jordan Fisher is best known for his roles in To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You, Teen Wolf, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, and Bart Allen (aka, Impulse) on The Flash.

Josh Levi as Aaron Z. – Aaron Z. is a member of 4*Town. Josh Levi is known for roles in Friday Night Lights and the series Royal Crush.

Topher Ngo as Aaron T. – Aaron T. is the second Aaron in 4*Town. Turning Red is Topher Ngo’s first acting role.

Finneas O’Connell as Jesse – Jesse is the fourth member of 4*Town. Finneas O’Connell co-wrote the boy band’s songs. He’s best known for roles in Glee, Modern Family, and Bad Teacher.
