‘Turbo’ International Trailer: The Origin of a Supersonic Snail

In Dreamworks’ upcoming animated feature Turbo, the titular underappreciated snail dreams of racing at the breakneck speeds of the Indianapolis 500. Mocked by friends and foes alike, Turbo despairs at ever being a racer.

When he’s involved in a freak accident involving a passing truck, a drag race, and a heavy dose of nitro, Turbo finds himself finally able to achieve his goal of burning up the track.

Turbo sports an all-star cast that includes Ryan Reynolds (The Croods), Paul Giamatti (The Amazing Spider-Man 2), Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers), Ken Jeong (The Hangover Part III), and Bill Hader (Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2). The film is directed by David Soren (Madagascar 2: Escape to Africa).

‘Turbo’ International Trailer: The Origin of a Supersonic Snail

This internationally-released extended trailer for Turbo certainly gives us more of an idea of the overall plot of the movie than the previously released teaser. Part animated fable and part superhero origin story, Turbo looks like it will be having quite a bit of fun with the concept of a snail gaining abilities akin to The Flash.

That said, much of what we see here is rather familiar. The opening scenes of this preview uncontrollably evoke other films of its sort – most notably the stereotypically-disgusting-animal-has-an-unusual-dream movie Ratatouille. One can only hope that these sections of the film are quickly shuffled out of the way so that Turbo can build to the real joys of a snail that can literally leave a trail of fire in his wake.

Turbo will zoom into theaters on July 19th, 2013.
