Trunks Gets a Realistic Modern Redesign in Awesome Dragon Ball Fanart

The fan-favorite Dragon Ball character known as Trunks is one of the most badass Z-Warriors this side of his hardheaded Saiyan Prince of a father, Vegeta, with this new piece of fanart — courtesy of comic industry artist InHyuk Lee — giving Trunks the modern redesign he’s always deserved!Shared on Twitter via the official account of InHyuk Lee (@inhyuklee), this realistic Trunks redesign isn’t the first time InHyuk Lee has posted awe-inspiring artwork to his page. Working as an illustrator and concept artist for both Marvel and DC Comics, InHyuk Lee consistently uploads images of his professional cover art for his followers to enjoy while also dabbling in creating fanart of characters hailing from the worlds of not only DC and Marvel but One Piece, Full Metal Alchemist, and of course, Dragon Ball.Related: Every Single Goku Transformation Ever Fuses in One Incredible Piece of FanartA character who has more than a few versions of himself kicking around the series — Future Trunks, Kid Trunks, and Dragon Ball GT’s take on Trunks just to name a few — Trunks is the child of Dragon Ball mainstays Vegeta and Bulma, and after essentially one-shotting Mecha Frieza during his initial debut, immediately became one of the most popular heroes in the franchise. Usually sporting some kind of jacket with the Capsule Corporation logo emblazoned somewhere on it, Trunks is never without his trusty sword that he keeps stowed away on his back, giving his generally easygoing but no-nonsense attitude a devastating outlet to channel itself through should the moment call for it.

Trunks Gets A Modern Live-Action Makeover in New Fanart

Drawn against a white background with a splash of light color, InHyuk Lee shows Trunks in all of his more realistic and modern glory as he stands shouldering his iconic weapon with one hand and holding a Dragon Ball radar in the other. Right away making a case for what Trunks could look like in a more lifelike — or even live-action — setting, InHyuk Lee hones in on the little details of Trunks’ look, helped along by a real-feeling art style that works on far more levels than one. With extra pouches, zippers, buttons, straps, and overall texture present in Trunks’ clothes, gloves, and boots, InHyuk Lee successfully gives Trunks’ fashion choices more realistic sensibilities, even going so far as to turn Trunks’ sword into a more deliberately designed weapon rather than the somewhat generic one seen in the show.

Completing this new look with less anime-like facial features and drawn with more realistically-sized body dimensions (Trunks hasn’t been spending weeks at a time in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber here), and it’s clear that InHyuk Lee knows what he’s doing when it comes to redesigning an iconic character like this one, especially for a more modern-day audience. It’s hard to say whether Dragon Ball will ever get an art style that’ll skew more realistic than stylish in its approach, so it’s a good thing InHyuk Lee (@inhyuklee) has a great piece of anime fanart ready in the wings to help drum up some inspiration for a potential changeover!
