True Blood: What Alexander Skarsgård Has Done Since The HBO Show Ended

Alexander Skarsgård gained notoriety after portraying Eric Northman for seven seasons of True Blood, and the Swedish actor has continued acquiring major roles in the years since. Born into a family of actors, Skarsgård got his start in the ’80s at a young age before acquiring the lead role in Hunden som log (The Dog That Smiled). The fame caused him to step away for a few years when he served in the military and took the time to study acting. In 2001, Skarsgård acquired a small role in the film, Zoolander, but his big break came in the 2008 HBO miniseries titled Generation Kill. Shortly after, Skarsgård joined the network’s new vampire series based on the novels by Charlaine Harris.

While working on True Blood, Skarsgård pursued other acting gigs, particularly in movies. After appearing in a few Swedish films, the actor had roles in 13, Straw Dogs, and Melancholia. In addition, Skarsgård had prominent roles in big-budget movies like Battleship and The Giver. He also solidified his connection with HBO by appearing in an episode of the comedy series, Eastbound & Down.

After True Blood came to an end in 2014, Skarsgård shifted his focus to acting in movies. He starred in The Duffer Brothers’ 2015 thriller, Hidden, before serving as the titular character in 2016’s The Legend of Tarzan. That same year, Skarsgård had a cameo in Zoolander 2. He then went on to work on films such as Mute, The Hummingbird Project, and Hold the Dark. Skarsgård also reunited with HBO in the drama, Big Little Lies. He played Perry Wright for two seasons which earned him several big accolades, including a Primetime Emmy Award.

More recently, Skarsgård has split his time between TV and film. After appearing in the BBC’s The Little Drummer Girl, the actor worked on the 2019 film, The Aftermath, alongside Keira Knightley and Jason Clarke as well as Long Shot, a romantic comedy starring Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron. In addition, the actor worked on The Kill Team, a war film based on a documentary of the same nameSkarsgård also appeared in an episode of Showtime’s On Becoming a God in Central Florida.

The True Blood alum has several major projects on deck including Godzilla vs. Kong. Skarsgård joined the fourth film of the MonsterVerse as a geologist who works closely with Kong. The film was originally slated for the spring of 2020 before being pushed back until November 20 due to the coronavirus theater shutdowns. Skarsgård will also appear in Passing and Northman, two movies currently in production. Most notable, however, is Skarsgård’s involvement in the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand. The actor has been tapped to play Randall Flagg in the CBS All Access series coming later this year.
