The first episode of the subtitled release only just premiered on January 7, meaning that the dub will be just two weeks behind the subtitled version. The first piece of casting news was also included, and it’s something that will have fans of the classic Trigun screaming: Johnny Yong Bosch will be reprising his role as Vash the Stampede after over 20 years.

Johnny Yong Bosch Returns to Voice Vash in Trigun Stampede

Johnny Yong Bosch is a well known voice for fans of English dubs of anime, playing iconic characters like Ichigo Kurosaki from Bleach, or Lelouch Vi Britannia from Code Geass; he originally got his start on Power Rangers, but Trigun was his first big break into voice acting for anime. Bosch recently reprised his role as Ichigo as well, having returned for Bleach‘s new The Thousand-Year Blood War anime. Trigun‘s voice director for the dub, Jeremy Inman, had this to say about working together: “TRIGUN is anime royalty and I can’t wait to work with Johnny Yong Bosch in bringing it back to life with this new and fresh take, promising old fans the same gun-slinging action while bringing in new fans as well with amazing animation, characters, and story.” At this time, it’s unknown if any of Bosch’s fellow voice actors from the original Trigun dub will be returning, but more casting news is sure to follow.

Trigun Stampede’s English Dub Gets Official Release Date

Dubbed episodes of Trigun Stampede will be debuting on Saturdays, alongside the latest subtitled release, beginning on January 21. It’s worth pointing out for those who haven’t kept up with Trigun Stampede that the series is a reboot, not a sequel, so there’s no need for fans to watch the original Trigun (although they absolutely should). The series is animated with a unique CGI anime style that’s already given it a distinctive and stylish look, and has featured major redesigns for some of the main characters, such as changing Vash’s hair or ditching the character of Millie entirely. While these changes have some fans nervous, the first episode proved that Trigun Stampede absolutely has merit.

Hopefully, fans who may have been nervous about changes will be somewhat set at ease by the return of Bosch, taking it as an indication that the characters of Trigun Stampede are still in good hands.
