Warning! This Article Contains Spoilers For Night SwimThe Blumhouse horror film Night Swim continues the studio’s ever-expanding legacy of terror, but will a sequel ever happen, and what would Night Swim 2 look like? Released in early 2024, Night Swim follows the Waller family who move into a new house only to discover that the backyard swimming pool is home to an evil force that threatens their very lives. Coming as director Bryce McGuire’s first feature film, Night Swim takes the simple concept of a haunted pool and expands it through interesting lore.
Despite the hype surrounding its release, the initial reviews for Night Swim have been anything but positive, with many critics pointing out that the movie largely fails to capitalize on the wealth of interesting ideas it establishes (via Rotten Tomatoes). Nevertheless, horror films are seldom judged by their critical reception, and Night Swim‘s relatively low budget makes turning a profit seem very possible. With that in mind, the ending of Night Swim leaves the door wide open for a sequel, meaning more watery nightmares may be on the horizon if the film is yet another Blumhouse blockbuster.
Night Swim 2 Is Not Confirmed

Unsurprisingly, no word has come regarding Night Swim 2, and it might be some time before Blumhouse decides on a sequel. Since critical reception is unimportant in the horror genre, the studio will likely be waiting on the movie’s long-term box office returns as well as its streaming data once it is available for home viewing. Night Swim has several things going for it that could make it a box office smash, including the small amount of similar competition at cinemas, its PG-13 rating that allows teens to see the movie, and its clever horror concept.
Night Swim 2 Cast

The cast of Night Swim 2 will largely depend on what direction the story goes in, and if it is a direct sequel to the original. Quite possibly, the second film could involve none of the original cast members and could see an entirely new ensemble in the lead roles. However, if the sequel is direct, most of the cast could return since the movie had a relatively low body count. The only main cast member who is out of the picture is Wyatt Russell’s Ray Waller who heroically sacrificed himself to save his family.
Otherwise, the rest of the Waller family could return, including:
Actor | Night Swim Role |
Kerry Condon | Eve Waller |
Amélie Hoeferle | Izzy Waller |
Gavin Warren | Elliott Waller |
Night Swim 2 Story

While nothing is confirmed yet, the lore of the first film, as well as its ending, left the possibilities for a sequel nearly endless. Night Swim 2 could be a direct sequel and follow the Waller family as they continue to live in their house, knowing full well that the evil spring still exists in their backyard. Though they covered the pool with dirt, the frightening spirits trapped within could easily find their way to the surface once again.
On the other hand, the movie also made it clear that the spring is ancient, which offers an opportunity to tell a story that takes place in nearly any period. Night Swim 2 could explore the story of the family that owned the house before the Wallers, or it could go back even further and show the evil of the spring before a family home was even built on the spot. Regardless, Night Swim 2 could expand and improve upon the original.
