The Toy Story 4 UK poster confirms that Woody and the gang will visit a carnival in the film. Most people assumed they had seen the last of the Toy Story characters on the big screen when Toy Story 3 opened in theaters in 2010 and, in the process, brought the tale of Andy’s toys to a fittingly poignant conclusion. Four years later, however, Pixar announces its plans to make a fourth Toy Story movie that would follow Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) on an adventure to find Bo Peep (Annie Potts), who had been sold between the events of Toy Story 2 and 3.
A lot has happened since then, following a dramatic change in the writers and directors that resulted in the majority of the original Toy Story 4 script being thrown out. The Toy Story 4 teaser trailer released earlier this month included an updated synopsis that revealed the story now follows Woody and his friends on a road trip adventure that shows Woody “how big the world can be for a toy”. That promo was followed thereafter by a second Toy Story 4 teaser that showed Woody and Buzz encountering a pair of carnival toys named Ducky and Bunny (Keegan Michael-Key and Jordan Peele, respectively).

The Toy Story 4 UK poster clearly shows a carnival the background, thus confirming that a significant portion of the film takes place there (significant enough to be included in a one-sheet, anyway). You can check it out in the space below.
According to the Toy Story 4 synopsis, the movie’s plot is set in motion when the Toys’ owner Bonnie creates “Forky” (Tony Hale), a spork-turned craft project who insists that he isn’t a toy. For reasons that are not entirely clear yet, this turn of events ultimately leads to Woody and his pals taking a road trip that leaves Woody wondering whether he really understands his place in the world. The original Toy Story 4 teaser even includes Judy Collins’ rendition of Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides, Now”, as a way of further suggesting that Woody questions his entire existence in the film.
One can already imagine the ways in which a trip to the carnival would do little to stop Woody’s existential crisis in its tracks. The synopsis included with the second Toy Story 4 teaser revealed that Ducky and Bunny’s lives are “rudely interrupted” by the Toy Story crew, who themselves have no idea “what it feels like to be tacked to a prize wall”. This indicates that Woody will once again find his beliefs about a toy’s place in the world challenged by these newcomers, and build on the confusion that he’s already experiencing towards “Forky”. That might also explain why Woody continues to look a bit pensive in the Toy Story 4 posters released so far.
