Top 15 Virgo Protagonists In Movies

Top 15 Virgo Protagonists In Movies

Virgos leave nothing to chance and approach things in life only when they’re confident enough. They take practical and cautious approaches and are often the ones people go to in a time of need.

Virgos are loyal and hardworking friends, often seen as the secondary or third main character in a movie. They are dependable, relatable, and they don’t usually steal the spotlight from the protagonists. But every now and then, whether they’re canonically a Virgo or not, Virgo-esque lead characters take the spotlight.

Updated on January 17th, 2022 by Ben Hathaway: Virgo characters may not typically fill the role of the primary protagonist, but their shyness can be overshadowed by their all-work-no-play attitude.

Characters that are Virgos can be the silent lead, like a puppet master that uses their influence for good. There will always be Virgo protagonists in films.

Ellen Ripley – Alien Franchise

Top 15 Virgo Protagonists In Movies

Alien was released in 1979, a time when the central character was almost universally male. But Ripley was the one to survive the Nostromo, and she didn’t do it as a quip-spouting Schwarzenneger type, but rather as a worrier.

Ripley is an extremely independent thinker, and this can make her seem cold if not outright rude (e.g. nearly barring Kane from re-entering the ship). She’s also practical and has an affinity for animals, both of which are Virgo qualities.

Elliott – E.T.

E.T. and Elliott standing together

E.T. is one of Steven Spielberg’s best alien films and his most warm-hearted. Elliott Taylor goes a long way towards making that so.

Elliott is shy, typically having an extremely hard time making friends. Furthermore, his love for animals could be linked to his extraterrestrial buddy just as it could to classroom frogs. Like other Maidens (the Virgo’s symbol), Elliott has a distaste for rudeness, especially from his brother and his brother’s friends. However, he differs in that he does not share a love of healthy food (an affinity for some of this Earth element).

Martha & Spencer – Jumanji Franchise

Martha and Spencer in Jumanji

Martha Kaply and Spencer Gilpin aren’t just Virgo characters in movies, they’re the same in the video game world, just in some different skin.

The “characters” are essentially the inverse of the two teens. Kaply becomes the aptly-named Ruby Roundhouse (Karen Gillan), master of Karate, Tai-Chi, Aikido, and dance fighting. Gilpin becomes Dr. Xander “Smolder” Bravestone, who possesses all of the traits audiences would expect from a typical movie protagonist.

Bruce Banner – MCU

Bruce banner Incredible hulk avengers age of ultron

Bruce Banner, AKA The Hulk, is certainly the shyest Avenger. That trait juxtaposed with Tony Stark’s loud bravura makes for some of the MCU’s best science bros. moments.

Banner is also work-focused with an analytical nature and a practical way of solving problems. He’s loyal to his friends, even going so far as to jump into the Hulkbuster for battle once “the other guy” doesn’t come out.

Hiccup – How To Train Your Dragon

How to Train Your Dragon‘s Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III is a great leader of his people, but he certainly goes a different way about it than his father, Stoick the Vast.

Hiccup certainly has a love for animals, so much so that it was the central dynamic that successfully built a trilogy. He also possesses most traits held by Virgos: he doesn’t love the center stage, he’s shy, a consistent worrier, and he can occasionally be quite hard on himself.

Hermione Granger – Harry Potter Franchise

As a member of the trio, Hermione brought a lot to the table as the smartest witch of her class. She may have a reputation of being a know-it-all and has a habit of getting on the nerves of Ron and Harry, but she is still a loyal and loving friend.

Born on September 19th, Hermione is born a Virgo and she embodies the zodiac sign to a teet. She’s studious, practical, and although she’s kind, she has always had trouble making friends as she wears her insecurities on her sleeve.

Axel Foley – Beverly Hills Cop

Axel Foley is the star of Beverly Hills Cop, a movie about a Detroit Cop who makes his way to Beverly Hills after his friend is murdered.  He was born on August 25th which makes him a Virgo although he doesn’t really display any of the characteristics.

He’s charming, goofy, and personable, which is the opposite of a Virgo, but he still has a lot of good Virgo qualities. He’s committed to his job, a loyal friend, and he doesn’t stand for rude or inappropriate behavior.

Bella Swan – Twilight Franchise

Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan

Twilight‘s Bella is one of the most unconventional protagonists in movie history due to her introverted nature and practical approach to life despite being surrounded by mythical vampires and werewolves.

Born September 13th, She was born a Virgo and displays a lot of the characteristics, including being overly critical of herself, refusing to ask for help, and her shy nature.

Newt Scamander – Fantastic Beasts Franchise

Newt walks in New York in Fantastic Beasts

As the star of the Harry Potter spin-off, Newt Scamander is a talented wizard with a passion for mythical creatures. He is seen as weird or awkward by most as he has a profession most wizards look down upon.

He may not be as brave and as reckless as Harry, but he is still a great wizard with a good head on his shoulders. He may not have a lot of people in his life, but the ones he does, he truly cares for.

Peter Parker/Spider-Man – MCU

Spider-Man without his mask in Homecoming.

As the third cinematic Spider-Man we’ve seen since the early 2000s, the MCU’s wall-crawler is the youngest and most inexperienced version of the hero. At only 15 years old, Peter is still getting the hang of being a hero and he makes a lot of mistakes along the way.

As a Virgo, Peter rarely likes violence and actually pulls his punches to avoid any serious damage or repercussions for his actions. He’s not the most popular guy in school but he is still a kind and practical hero.

Frodo Baggins – Lord Of The Rings Franchise

Born September 22nd, Frodo Baggins wasn’t meant for heroics and would much rather stay in the comfort and safety of his house. He’s not the most intimidating or best hero, but he is still committed to the cause and one of the bravest heroes.

He’s constantly worrying and he seems quite fearful of the world and his adventures but nevertheless gets through with it and lives happily ever after.

*Barry Allen/The Flash – DCEU

As the youngest and most inexperienced hero in the Justice League, Barry Allen is a man who has spent most of his life on his own and has very few people he can turn to. After he gets his powers he becomes even more isolated from the world and into his own shell.

Unlike the rest of the heroes, The Flash has no experience fighting or hurting anyone and chooses to avoid doing it, like a true Virgo. Fortunately, audiences will have more time with the character in the upcoming multiverse-changer The Flash.

Miguel – Coco (2017)

Miguel was the star of the Disney classic, Coco, a story about a young boy who travels to the spirit world to meet his idol. When he realizes his idol isn’t who he thought he was, he tries to expose him and give credit to the real hero behind all the songs his idol sang.

Miguel is a young and ambitious young man but is the black sheep of his family as he is the only one who enjoys music and hates making shoes. He second guesses himself a lot and often struggles to find who he really is, which makes him a true Virgo.

Obi-Wan Kenobi – Star Wars Saga

Obi Wan Kenobi in Star Wars

As a fan favorite of the Star Wars saga, Obi-Wan is a composed and level-headed Jedi master with a lot of experience as a fighter and diplomat. He has a reputation for handling situations without resulting in violence and is trusted to handle the direst situations.

He’s practical and very by the book, refusing to ever break rules and constantly correcting his young and reckless padawan. He approaches everything with caution and has made it to his old age because of it.

Jamie – A Walk To Remember

Mandy Moore kissing Shane West in A Walk To Remember

Jamie wasn’t the most popular or prettiest girl in her high school and she didn’t let that bother her at all. Her nose was always in a book and rarely came out of her shell until she met and fell in love with Shane.

She’s very shy and extremely obedient, even with her father’s strict rules, making her a great example of a Virgo movie protagonist.
