Earlier this month, Too Hot To Handle stars Carly Lawrence and Joey Joy confirmed that they’re officially a couple, and we’re about to share their complete relationship timeline so far. There have been a lot of ups and downs for this THTH pair, on and off the screen. However, it appears that they’ve found happiness together. They’re currently in a long-distance relationship since Joey lives in Miami and Carly lives in Toronto.
Too Hot To Handle is Netflix’s latest dating reality TV show. Contestants on the show are encouraged to deal with their intimacy issues by abstaining from purely physical relationships. Instead of physical intimacy, the contestants are encouraged to face their emotions and form real bonds with others on the show. Digital host Lana guides the cast members through their journey. The series first made its debut in the summer of 2020. Fans of the show may remember Harry Jowsey and Francesca Farago from season one. They are now broken up, but followers now have a new couple, Carly Lawrence and Joey Joy, to obsess over.
Carly was open about her relationship insecurities on the show. The way that Chase DeMoor treated her didn’t help. In fact, it brought all of those insecurities up to the surface. Fans saw Carly feeling sad on the show when things didn’t work out with Chase. He became smitten with Tabitha Clifft and he moved on so rapidly that Carly felt hurt. She was able to assert herself by sharing her true feelings with Chase during a workshop. She said some stuff that he needed to hear. Luckily, Joey was there to help her heal. At the season 2 reunion, Tabitha said that Chase kept pursuing her after the show. So, it looks like his attraction to Tabitha was the real thing.
Season 2 Released
On June 23, Too Hot To Handle season 2 was released on Netflix. Carly was one of the first cast members to appear on the show. Joey joined the cast later on in the second season.
Carly and Chase Hit It Off
From the beginning, Carly and Chase from Too Hot To Handle had chemistry. Chase went in to kiss Carly, but she bumped her head on the wall beside the couch, causing some temporary awkwardness. It all started when he asked her, “Can we talk for a little bit?” Despite the head bump incident, the pair still had a steamy makeout session.
The smooch came before Lana announced the touching, kissing, and anything intimate ban. Too Hot To Handle cast members were upset as they thought they were on a show called “Parties in Paradise.” The ban didn’t stop Carly and Chase from making out.
Threeway Kiss
Both Melinda Melrose and Carly wanted to kiss Peter Vigilante, so he encouraged them to play rock-paper-scissors for a kiss. He ended up kissing both women.
Date with Robert
Carly and Robert Van Tromp went on a date together, but nothing came of it. She said during the date. “You know I am seeing someone in the house.” Unfortunately for Robert, until he got together with Christina, this would be an ongoing pattern. He also went on a date with Melinda and Kayla Carter, but it didn’t go anywhere with either woman.
Chase and Carly One on One
After her date with Robert, Carly sat down for a one on one chat with Chase. She told him the honest truth about flirting etc., but also revealed that she told Robert about Chase. He confessed that he was nervous she would do something with Robert.
“That process really brought like a lot of emotions in me that I didn’t even know I had,” Chase said. “And I feel like I haven’t felt that…” Then a massive bug landed on his face. It was a horrible moment for something like that to happen, but it definitely broke the tension between Chase and Carly. Chase said: “A cockroach just landed on my forehead, that scared the s**t outta me!”
Joey Joins the Cast
Eventually, things between the Too Hot To Handle stars fizzled, but then Joey joined the cast in episode 6. “I feel so good when I’m with him,” Carly said on the series. Joey shared an interest in Carly by saying she was “really cute.” They got cozy one night and shared a forbidden kiss. At the end of season 2, Joey and Carly decided they still wanted to see each other, but they weren’t an official couple yet.
Miami Trip
According to her Instagram, Carly visited Miami for an extended period of time, from approximately January to mid-February of 2021. Joey lives in Miami so it’s presumed they were spending some time together. On Valentine’s Day, Joey posted a picture of himself on Instagram with the caption, “MadHappy,” as seen above. It seemed like he was referring to his budding romance with Carly.
Brief Split
In April, after Carly left Miami, it appears that the Too Hot To Handle couple split. Joey posted a variety of content that suggested their break up, including an Instagram caption that read, “Certified Lova boii” with a broken heart emoji. In May, he also posted a TikTok where he lip-synced to a song about his ex being trouble. Who else could he be talking about?
Carly and Joey Confirm Relationship
“I am seeing someone from the show. It’s Joey,” Carly said. “We dated and then we broke up because I’m crazy, and now we’re rekindling things, we’ll see how it goes.” She added that she was going to see Joey in Los Angeles since he couldn’t come to Toronto due to border closures. See a July 11 post of Carly’s above. Joey also publicly confirmed the relationship with Carly by commenting on her July 4th Instagram post, “Mine.”
Matching Tattoos
In mid-July, the Too Hot To Handle pair got matching flame tattoos on their pinky fingers. It appears that they got their new ink during another trip together in Miami.
