Tom Welling’s Superman Gets The Family Christmas He Deserves In Festive Smallville Art

New Smallville fan art brings Tom Welling’s Superman and his DC family together for the Christmas holiday. For a full decade, Smallville told Clark Kent’s great origin story prior to him becoming Superman, with Welling portraying the DC icon on the small screen. While Smallville ended the character’s journey with Clark becoming Superman; many have been wanting to see his show come back in one way or another.

With 2023 getting ready to close out, Buffy2Ville shared new Smallville fan artwork of what it would look like for Welling’s Superman to celebrate the holidays with his family. One version imagines Clark and Lois Lane with their daughters, who were referenced for the first time during Arrowverse’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover.

However, Buffy2Ville also gave a scenario where Welling’s version of Superman was still together with Lana Lang, as the gallery features them celebrating Christmas together. It is also a clever homage to Clark and Lana’s initial love story during Smallville seasons 1-7.

Will We Ever See Smallville’s Superman Again?

Given the current age of TV revivals and sequels to popular shows, it begs the question if the DC audience has seen the last of Smallville’s Superman. While DC Studios is working on James Gunn’s DC Universe as the main continuity for TV and film, Smallville still falls under the Elseworlds category, which is also going to be a brand that Warner Bros. Discovery still pursues. With The CW getting ready to end its superhero TV era, Max could always be the new home for a potential Smallville sequel.

In fact, Welling and Smallville’s own Lex Luthor, Michael Rosenbaum, have been working on doing an animated show to serve as a continuation with the original creators. It’s unclear if the Smallville sequel is still moving forward in light of the launch of DC Studios. but if Smallville were to return in animation, that would allow Welling’s Superman to be explored even further without sizeable budget constraints.

For the time being, it remains to be seen if Welling will ever get a shot at playing Superman again. Even if he doesn’t get the chance to play his Superman in the future, perhaps Welling can get a role in Gunn’s DC Universe and serve as a legacy casting, which live-action DC movies and shows have been famous for doing in the past. Until any revival happens, the world can relive the entire run of Smallville on Blu-Ray/DVD or on streaming.
