Tom Welling’s Superman Family From Crisis On Infinite Earths Comes To Life In Stunning Smallville Art

Smallville fan art shows Tom Welling’s Superman with Lois Lane and their kids, following his and Erica Durance’s big DC cameos in Arrowverse’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event. The Arrowverse franchise on The CW may have been the network’s more modern superhero property, but Smallville started out as one of their flagship shows after The WB and UPN merged in 2006. During its decade-long run on TV, Smallville served as the ultimate origin story for Clark Kent before he suited up and became Superman, which paved the way for more comic book TV shows right after its conclusion in 2011.

While the characters of Smallville ended their journey after season 10 in 2011, it wouldn’t be the last time Welling’s Man of Steel was featured on the network as he appeared during Crisis on Infinite Earths for a prominent cameo appearance. Even five years later, fans are still wanting to see more of his story, as Buffy2Ville shared new artwork of Clark’s family in a scenario after Crisis on Infinite Earths.

The Smallville artwork features Welling and Durance’s Clark and Lois, respectively, with their two daughters, who were confirmed to exist on Earth-167 during Crisis on Infinite Earths. While their names were never said, Lois brings them up very briefly, establishing that they became parents at some point after the events of Smallville season 10.

Throughout Smallville’s ten seasons, Tom Welling’s Clark Kent showed many of Superman’s signature powers, with some impressive displays along the way.

Why Smallville Needs To Get A Sequel Revival Show

While Smallville did become the longest-running comic book TV show of all time, the series finale literally set up a whole new show for them if the creators had wanted to go down that route. Smallville was always about how Clark learned to become the Man of Steel, but a sequel show could be a proper Superman series, using ten years of mythology that viewers followed every week. Smallville season 11 may not have happened as a television show, but it was produced as a digital comic, serving as a tie-in to the original series and showing just how many more stories there are to tell with Welling’s character.

Since Crisis on Infinite Earths also served as a soft reboot of the DC live-action multiverse, a Smallville revival could reveal that after the Arrowverse event, Clark got his powers back and is now managing to be a superhero, reporter, husband, and father at the same time. It could also be a flip of the script from Superman & Lois where Smallville can explore what it is like for Lois and Clark to raise two daughters instead of sons, potentially one of them having powers too. If it can’t be as a live-action show, there is also the animated route, which is what Welling and Smallville star Michael Rosenbaum were working on prior to the Hollywood strikes in 2023.

Time will tell if Warner Bros. Discovery will want to re-explore Smallville as they are currently busy with getting James Gunn’s new DC Universe up and running. But with the Elseworlds branding being a more active part than ever at DC Studios, a Smallville sequel, even as a limited-event series, will be something that will be possible. But for now, the world will have to wait and see if Smallville ever gets to continue in any shape or form.
