Tom Welling’s Superman Battles Jensen Ackles’ Batman In New Smallville Fan Art

New Smallville fan art imagines what the DC show would have looked like if Jensen Ackles played Batman as he fights Tom Welling’s Superman in the artwork. While there have been many DC TV shows over the last decade, none of it would have been possible if it hadn’t been for Smallville. The Superman live-action TV show, which starred Welling as Clark Kent from 2001 – 2011, paved the way for the comic book genre on television, especially in the case of the Arrowverse franchise, which launched only a year after Smallville ended its run on The CW.

While Smallville got honored in Arrowverse’s Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover, there are many who still want to see the show come back and continue the adventures of Welling’s Superman. One scenario is his Man of Steel taking on the Caped Crusader as Buffy2Ville shared new Smallville fan art of Welling fully suited up as Superman while Ackles gets imagined as Batman.

The Smallville artwork shows Welling and Ackles donning Henry Cavill and Ben Affleck’s respective Superman and Batman costumes from the DCEU timeline. The gallery of photos also gives a good look at Ackles with and without the infamous Batcowl, proving once again he would be a great Dark Knight in live-action.

Jensen Ackles’ Smallville History Explained

While Ackles is heavily recognized for his role as Dean Winchester on Supernatural and Soldier Boy on The Boys, The CW star has his own history with Smallville. When The WB (which merged with UPN in 2006 to become The CW) was doing its casting search for Clark on Smallville, Ackles was almost cast as Clark Kent. However, when Welling entered the picture, Ackles lost the role of the future Man of Steel to him.

However, in Smallville season 4, Ackles ended up booking a role as a series regular, playing Coach Jason Teague, who became a love interest for Lana Lang and a rival to Lex Luthor. By the end of Smallville season 4, Jason was killed off as he was a casualty during the second meteor shower that hit the town. It was right after his time on Smallville that Ackles landed one of the lead roles on Supernatural, which went on to air for nearly two decades.

While Ackles may not play Batman in live-action, he is voicing the iconic DC hero in the animated Tomorrowverse and will next be seen in Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths, which will be a three-parter. But with the upcoming DC Universe, perhaps his time as Batman in live-action will finally become a reality. For now, the world can relive every season of Smallville on streaming and Blu-Ray/DVD, including season 4, which features Ackles’ character.
