Tom Holland’s Uncharted Movie Delayed AGAIN (For The 3rd Time)

Tom Holland’s upcoming Uncharted movie is the latest to face a release date delay due to the ongoing coronovirus pandemic. Known as COVID-19, the coronavirus has greatly impacted the entertainment industry, from production halts to release delays. Nearly every film due to be released in the next several months has been postponed. In some cases, these movies have been released to streaming and VOD instead, while others have been delayed indefinitely. What’s more, many of these films are would-be blockbusters, including MulanBlack Widow, and Wonder Woman 1984.

MGM was the first studio to postpone a major release, shocking fans when it announced Bond film No Time to Die would bow a full seven months later than planned. Since then, announcements have become commonplace, with many worrying how theaters and the movie industry will bounce back after the pandemic is over. Filming has also stopped around the globe, leaving even far-off release dates in question. Depending on how long this issue continues, some movies may not be able to make their planned release dates, even those in 2021.

This is clearly a concern for Sony, who confirmed with Screen Rant that Uncharted, which was originally slated for March 5, 2021, will now be released October 8, 2021. The news came among delays for fellow Sony films MorbiusGhostbusters: Afterlife, and several others. Following several behind-the-scenes delays in the course of its development, Sony recently delayed production on Uncharted indefinitely due to the coronavirus. This left many speculating if a release delay like this one was on the way.

Tom Holland’s Uncharted Movie Delayed AGAIN (For The 3rd Time)

The Uncharted movie is based on a popular video game series. It will see MCU star Tom Holland leave Spider-Man behind for Nathan Drake. Drake is a treasure hunter who often works with Victor Sullivan, a father figure of sorts to him. Sullivan will be played by Mark Wahlberg, who’s compared the movie to Indiana Jones in the past. Holland has previously said it will explore Drake’s origin story and that its inspired by the fourth game in the series. Uncharted got a new director earlier this month, in Venom‘s Ruben Fleischer.

Though this latest delay for Uncharted is understandable considering the number of movies that have already been pushed back, it’s also par for the course for this film. It’s been in the works with various directors and writers for over a decade and still hasn’t been made. Though those currently involved with the project seem committed, it’s also possible this delay becomes the final nail in Uncharted‘s coffin. Considering it’s still very much unknown when movies and TV shows will be able to resume production, Uncharted could remain in limbo for some time.
