Tom Holland Confirms Which Infinity Gauntlet Snap Opened The Multiverse

Spider-Man: Far From Home star Tom Holland confirms Thanos’ Infinity Gauntlet snap tore open the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s multiverse. After Spider-Man officially joined the MCU in Captain America: Civil War, Peter Parker (Holland) has gone on to star in a solo series, first with 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming and now this year’s Far From Home. Of course, Spidey also appeared in the last two team-up movies, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. And while Endgame wrapped up the story of the MCU thus far, it’s Far From Home that will close out Phase 3.

As such, Spidey’s next solo movie will deal with the fallout from Avengers: Endgame, particularly Peter Parker grieving for Tony Stark aka. Iron Man. It’s also been confirmed that all of Spider-Man’s classmates were dusted in Infinity War – when Thanos used the Infinity Gauntlet to wipe out half of all life in the universe – explaining why none of Peter Parker’s friends are five years older. Further, the full Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer introduced Quentin Beck aka. Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal), who confirmed the existence of the multiverse and revealed one of the snaps tore a hole in it, allowing for the Elementals to arrive on Earth.

Now, Holland, who’s known for spoiling his Marvel movies, has confirmed which snap exactly tore a hole in the multiverse that will force Spider-Man to deal with the ramifications. At an event promoting next month’s release of Spider-Man: Far From Home, Holland spoke about Spidey’s mission with Mysterio (via Twitter user Q82004yousef1), saying:

Mysterio in this movie is actually my new best friend. We team up together to fight these Elemental creatures because when Thanos snapped his fingers, these creatures came through the dimensional rift.

Tom Holland Confirms Which Infinity Gauntlet Snap Opened The Multiverse

Certainly, the Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer did confirm it was an Infinity Gauntlet snap that opened up the multiverse, and prior to Endgame, there was only one: Thanos’ at the end of Infinity War. However, Avengers: Endgame featured two more snaps, one by Hulk to bring everyone back that had been dusted by Thanos, and another by Iron Man that eliminated Thanos’ army. Arguably, each of the snaps were powerful enough to damage the barriers between the various universes in the multiverse, so it was never clear which exactly caused the arrival of the Elementals.

There’s still the possibility that Mysterio is lying about the multiverse. After all, in the comics Mysterio is a master of illusion who at first appears to be a hero, before revealing himself to be a villain. Although the Far From Home trailers have depicted Mysterio as a new mentor to Spider-Man, and an ally of Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders), it’s likely Marvel has a twist or two up their sleeves. So perhaps it doesn’t matter that Holland revealed which snap tore open the multiverse because Mysterio is lying about the multiverse. Of course, it could also be a case that Mysterio is lying AND the multiverse exists. Fans may have to wait for Spider-Man: Far From Home to hit theaters for their questions to be answered.
