Tom Holland may have already hinted at the perfect storyline for Marvel Studios’ upcoming Spider-Man 4, though this could spell bad news for Peter Parker’s Spider-Man in the MCU. Tom Holland debuted as Peter Parker in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, after Marvel Studios and Sony brokered a deal to bring Spider-Man into the MCU. Since then, Spider-Man has become a key figure in the MCU, embarking on his own solo trilogy, and having a major role in Infinity War and Endgame, but, following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the future of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is less certain.
Spider-Man: No Way Home saw Peter Parker deal with a major multiversal threat, which ended with everyone in the world forgetting his identity. This included his friends, Ned Leeds, MJ and Happy Hogan, leaving him completely alone as Marvel Studios plans the MCU’s Spider-Man 4. Little is known about Spider-Man 4, but there are several stories the project could explore, whether it be focusing on the multiverse, or developed as a street-level adventure. Whatever the case may be, Tom Holland may have already hinted at a major event in Spider-Man 4 that would change the landscape of the MCU forever.

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 Gets Major Filming, Director & Casting Updates In New Report
After months with no updates on the anticipated MCU project, Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 has just had some exciting details rumored in a new report.
Tom Holland Wants To Stop Playing Spider-Man In His Thirties
During a 2021 cover story on him by GQ, Tom Holland revealed more about his time as Spider-Man, but suggested that this journey could soon come to an end. Holland noted that, “if [he’s] playing Spider-Man after [he’s] 30, [he’s] done something wrong,” which hints at a ticking clock for Holland’s time as the wall-crawler. Tom Holland is 27-years-old, giving Marvel Studios roughly three good years of Holland wanting to appear as Spider-Man. Holland did also mention that he could happily “do Spider-Man 4, 5, and 6, [and] finish when [he’s] 32,” which gives Marvel Studios a little more leeway.
Maybe it is time for me to move on. Maybe what’s best for Spider-Man is that they do a Miles Morales film. I have to take Peter Parker into account as well, because he is an important part of my life. If I’m playing Spider-Man after I’m 30, I’ve done something wrong… I might do Spider-Man 4, 5, and 6, finish when I’m 32, and never make another. I’m not sure what I want to do.
The fact that Tom Holland is perhaps hoping to exit from the role of Peter Parker’s Spider-Man in his thirties means that his departure will likely occur in Marvel Studios’ next Spider-Man trilogy. If the “Home Trilogy” detailed Spider-Man’s origin story, the next trilogy of MCU Spider-Man projects could mark the end of Peter Parker’s journey. However, Tom Holland hasn’t suggested he would simply abandon the role, and has, in fact, been hopeful that a new character could adopt the moniker of Spider-Man in his place, which creates the perfect storyline to be explored in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Spider-Man 4.
Tom Holland Revealed 2 Spider-People Who Could Replace Peter Parker In The MCU
Shortly after his GQ interview, Tom Holland clarified his comments to Cheslie Kryst at Extra, noting that, if he was to continue playing Spider-Man into his thirties, he’d be taking the place of a younger character who could assume the role in his place. Holland suggested that he would love to see a more diverse Spider-Person debut in the MCU, potentially even a female Spider-Person. To this end, he revealed that he wants to see either Miles Morales’ Spider-Man or Cindy Moon’s Silk take over from him as Spider-Man in the MCU, which could realistically take place in Spider-Man 4.
In Marvel Comics, Miles Morales is a version of Spider-Man from the Ultimate Marvel reality, while Cindy Moon became Silk after being bitten by the same spider that gave Peter Parker his abilities. Miles takes over from Peter Parker after the latter dies during battle with the Green Goblin, becoming the new Spider-Man, and entering Marvel Comics’ main continuity after 2015’s Secret Wars event. Cindy Moon has already appeared in the MCU, portrayed by Tiffany Espensen since 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, and while she hasn’t yet revealed herself to be Silk, this could take place in the MCU’s upcoming Spider-Man trilogy.
Spider-Man 4 Is The Perfect Place To Introduce A New Spider-Man
While there has been some dispute about what storyline Spider-Man 4 could explore in the MCU, it may be the perfect time for Tom Holland to hang up his web shooters and allow a new Spider-Person to fill his shoes. After the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker is completely alone in the world, and there’s been no word on whether his friends and allies will remember him. This creates the opportunity for him to take a new hero under his wing and become a mentor, similarly to how Tony Stark’s Iron Man and Doctor Strange mentored him.

Spider-Man 4 Will Finally Introduce Two Classic Spider-Man Characters To The MCU In Marvel Theory
Spider-Man 4’s soft reset of Peter Parker’s life could be the perfect time to introduce two of his best friends from Marvel Comics.
Spider-Man 4 can kick-start a new trilogy by finally transforming Tiffany Espensen’s Cindy Moon into Silk, or introducing Miles Morales into the MCU. Back in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, Donald Glover debuted as Aaron Davis, Miles Morales’ uncle, and even mentioned his nephew, but neither Aaron Davis nor Miles Morales have appeared in the MCU since then. Glover’s return as “MCU Prowler” in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse could have set up his return as the Prowler in Spider-Man 4, meaning the upcoming MCU project could bring together several exciting spider-themed heroes, and set up Tom Holland’s emotional exit from the MCU.
Marvel Studios Isn’t Done With Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Yet
While it’s very possible that Spider-Man 4 could be Tom Holland’s final adventure as Peter Parker’s Spider-Man, there are still many stories from Marvel Comics that haven’t been adapted for the wall-crawler’s MCU journey. It would perhaps be beneficial for Holland to stick around for the entire upcoming Spider-Man trilogy, with Spider-Man 6 in the MCU marking his exit. This would wrap up his time in Marvel Studios’ franchise nicely, and give him ample opportunity to find a suitable replacement and train them, while also setting a new record, as he’d become the character with the most MCU solo projects.
Spider-Man Movie Appearances | Tom Holland’s Age |
---|---|
Captain America: Civil War (2016) | 19 |
Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) | 21 |
Avengers: Infinity War (2018) | 21 |
Avengers: Endgame (2019) | 22 |
Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019) | 23 |
Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021) | 25 |
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) | 25 |
Peter Parker’s Spider-Man first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1962’s Amazing Fantasy #15, and Marvel Studios has barely scratched the surface of the comics’ over-60-year history of stories centered on the wall-crawler. The MCU’s Spider-Man is yet to face many of his most iconic villains, including official MCU versions of Norman Osborn’s Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus, and hasn’t had the chance to explore some of his most intense romances. There are too many stories to tell for Tom Holland to exit the MCU in Spider-Man 4, though it seems the clock is ticking on his time as Peter Parker.
