Tom Hanks’ Next Movie Will Be A Massive Forrest Gump Reunion, 30 Years Later

Tom Hanks’ Next Movie Will Be A Massive Forrest Gump Reunion, 30 Years Later

The next feature film from Tom Hanks titled Here will mark a massive reunion of several key crew and cast members of the iconic film Forrest Gump. The Tom Hanks film, which is currently in production, has an incredibly unique premise with the entire setting being in the same room throughout the entire movie. The 67-year-old Hanks, known for starring in some of the most iconic films of all time including Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan, and Philadelphia, will be teaming up with acclaimed director Robert Zemeckis for the first time since 2022’s Pinocchio remake.

Zemeckis and Hanks have teamed up in three other films before Pinocchio and the upcoming Here, which is expected to release sometime in 2024. The other three Zemeckis-Hanks collaborations include Forrest Gump, Cast Away, and The Polar Express. All of these collaborations occurred between the years 1994 and 2004, making the upcoming release of Here already one of the most anticipated movies of 2024 despite the less-than-rave reviews about their recent team-up on Pinocchio.

Here Will Reunite Tom Hanks With Robert Zemeckis, Robin Wright & More

While Hanks and Zemeckis have worked together on a number of projects, Here will mark the actor’s first time reuniting with Forrest Gump co-star Robin Wright. Wright played the ionic character Jenny in Forrest Gump before going on to star in a number of successful films and television series including the acclaimed Netflix political drama House of Cards. With Wright’s involvement in addition to Zemeckis directing, it will be impossible not to draw comparisons between Here and Forrest Gump.

In addition, Here will also be the first Robert Zemeckis-directed film with a screenplay written by Eric Roth since Forrest Gump. The movie is based on a graphic novel of the same name written by Richard McGuire that originally began as a 6-page comic strip in 1989. The story will follow the many people who inhabit one room over the course of several years. Roth is one of the most prolific screenwriters in Hollywood, having penned the screenplays for Killers of the Flower Moon, Dune, A Star Is Born, Ali, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

Will Here Recapture What Made Forrest Gump So Successful?

Forrest and Jenny in Forrest Gump

With the two main actors, director, and screenwriter of Forrest Gump all teaming back up some thirty years later on the highly-anticipated Here, there’s never been more excitement about a film’s potential of recapturing the phenomenal impact of the original Forrest Gump when it was first released. While Here will certainly tell a different story than Forrest Gump, the film will reportedly be de-aging Hanks and potentially Wright for the film, which could create another decade-spanning epic very similar to Forrest Gump.
