Tokyo Vice Season 2 Episode 8 Recap: 12 Biggest Reveals

Tokyo Vice season 2, episode 8 “The Noble Path” follows the aftermath of Jake’s return to the U.S. and Sato’s banishment from the Chihara-Kai. Tokyo Vice season 2, episode 7 saw Hayama rise to prominence among the Chihara-Kai and gain full control of Sato’s brother Kaito by ordering him to shoot members of the Tozawa clan. After Katagiri and Nagata survive the assassination of Ishida’s killer Shijiro on their way to the courthouse, Katagiri begins to suspect that someone inside the Tokyo Police department is a mole, much like last season’s Miyamoto.

Tozawa continues along his reformed path of treating his yazuka clan as a business, vying for more political power through the corrupt Vice Minister Shigematsu. Jake works on developing his groundbreaking story on Tozawa and his alleged illegal liver transplant in the United States after successfully blackmailing the surgeon who performed the operation. With only two episodes left of Tokyo Vice season 2, Jake remains determined to expose Tozawa through his journalism, while Samantha goes rogue and looks for new ways to protect herself and Club Polina.

Tozawa Rewards Misaki’s Loyalty By Buying Her Mother A House

Misaki fears Tozawa has found out about affair with Jake

After Miaski is caught leaving Jake’s apartment by one of Tozawa’s subordinates, she fears that she will face brutal consequences from Tozawa. Rather than being punished, Tozawa rewards Misaki with the deed to a house for her and her mother. This indicates that the Tozawa member did not disclose her affair with Jake to Tozawa, but Misaki has one more appointment that day with Tozawa’s wife Kazuko who has other motivations in mind.

Katagiri Reenacts Shinjiro’s Assassination & Discovers Tozawa’s Mole

Katagiri realizes his associate ducked out of the way in the backseat

Katagiri works diligently with the Tokyo Police to reenact the assassination of Shinjiro, who had shown up in desperation in Katagiri’s house in Tokyo Vice episode 6. After going through the assassination several times, Katagiri discovers that the only way that the assassins could have accurately shot Shinjiro would have been if the person next to him in thebackseat had ducked out of the way. Katagiri realizes that his associate must have known about the hit on Shinjiro.

Misaki Is Summoned & Blackmailed By Tozawa’s Wife Kazuko

Misaki is now obligated to work for Kazuko’s interests

Misaki is brought from Tozawa’s office to a private meeting with Tozawa’s wife, Kazuko, who up until this point has not had a very large role in the series. It appears that Kazuko wields more power and intelligence than her husband, whose brute force has gotten him this far but likely won’t be a sustainable way of maintaining power. Tozawa tells Misaki she is aware of her affair with Jake but agrees to keep this information from her husband in order to build a loyal bond with Misaki to do her bidding.

Gen Tells Sato That Hayama Ordered A Public Attack On Tozawa Members

Hayama once again sent Kaito on a dangerous mission

Gen, the only Chihara-Kai member who remains loyal to Sato (who also happens to be the person who stabbed Sato in the Tokyo Vice season 1 finale), tells Sato about Hayama’s aggressive retaliation against the Tozawa clan. Gen also reveals that Hayama had sent the inexperienced Kaito on the mission and that Kaito actually shot someone. Sato understands that if he does not do something fast, one of these dangerous missions that Hayama sends Kaito on will end very badly.

Superintendent Nagata Is Shockingly Replaced By Superintendent Yamaha

Assistant Commissioner Arai explains she was disrupting the way of things

In a strange turn of events, Superintendent Nagata is suddenly replaced by a new character, Yamaha, to spearhead the operations against the yakuza clan. Katagiri is outraged by the decision and argues to the Assistant Commissioner Arai that Katagiri was actually making strides to clean up the streets of Tokyo. Arai reminds Katagiri that it did not serve the best interests of the higher ups for Nagata to radically wipe out the yakuza clans and that she was fired for not understanding the way things had worked in their department.

FBI Agent Lynn Oberfeld Tells Jake His Scoop On Tozawa’s Transplant Is False

Oberfeld likely lied to protect Jake from entering Tozawa’s crosshairs

Jake seeks the assistance of the U.S. FBI representative in Tokyo, Lynn Oberfeld, on the story he’s working on about Tozawa. He tells her that he discovered Tozawa had gotten a liver transplant in Minnesota and suspected that the surgeon was bribed in order for Tozawa to hump ahead on the waitlist. Oberfeld agrees to look into it and gets back to Jake soon after, explaining that it was all one big misunderstanding. Jake knows that Lynn lied to him most likley in order to protect him from getting too involved in something very dangerous.

Samantha Tries To Steal Money Back From Akira But Learns He’s A Fraud

Samantha goes completely rogue and threatens Akira with Sato’s gun

Samantha tracks down Aikra’s location and tries to rob him in his own home. She had previously seen him on television in an earlier episode of Tokyo Vice flaunting his expensive jewelry, watches, and clothes. Samantha threatens Akira with a gun, noting that he has stolen all of her money and demanded that he pay her back. Akira reveals that he is not actually wealthy and is given luxurious items to wear on TV but is obligated to give them back. Samantha beats up Akira but leaves empty handed.

Sato Brutally Beats Up Hayama & The Chihara-Kai Collectively Drown Him

Kaito reveals that Hayama had senselessly killed former yakuza Ota

In the most shocking moment from Tokyo Vice episode 8, Sato returns to the Chihara-Kai and beats up Hayama. Kaito speaks up and reveals that Hayama had murdered one of their own, Ota, in Tokyo Vice season 2, episode 4, which turns the Chihara-Kai against their new leader. Sato confirms the story and continues fighting Hayama. Gen intervenes and saves Sato before Sato severely injures Hayama’s right eye. Sato drops Hayama in a bath and several Chihara-Kai members collectively drown him.

In a full circle moment from the beginning of Tokyo Vice season 2, episode 1, Jake and Tozawa’s second-in-command Yabuki talk face to face. Yabuki threatens the lives of Jake and his entire family if he chooses not to back down from writing the groundbreaking piece on Tozawa that would surely incriminate him. Sato Keeps His Word To His Mother & Brings Kaito Back Home

Sato makes good on his promise to Kaito and his mother to get his younger brother out of the Chihara-Kai for good. Kaito had been roped in by Hayama and had nearly been killed in the process, but after Hayama’s death, Sato is able to free Kaito from his burden. Kaito asks his mother if he can return home, and she instantly says yes, thanking Sato for keeping his word. Sato explains that he cannot stay because people he cares about are in danger as the turf war with the Tozawa clan intensifies.

Jake Calls His Dad Who Encourages Him To Keep Writing But Be Careful

Jake’s dad knows of the risks but tells Jake to be safe

After his intense encounter with Yabuki, Jake calls his dad from a payphone to explain his situation. He discloses that his actions have put the lives of his parents and sister in danger but asks his dad for advice on what to do. After some thought, and understanding that Tozawa is likely not bluffing, Jake’s dad encourages him to keep writing the story. With both Katagiri and his father in full support of him, Jake appears to stay on the path of getting the Tozawa story out as soon as possible.

Shigematsu Becomes Prime Minister After Suspicious Health-Related Resignation

Tozawa now has great political power because of Yoshino tape

The final twist of Tokyo Vice season 2, episode 8 is the sudden promotion of Vice Minister Shigematsu to acting Prime Minister after a suspicious heath-related resignation. The final scene of the episode shows Tozawa gleefully watching the announcement on the news next to his wife Kazuko, who appears satisfied in a less obvious way. The news also breaks to Jake at a bar and to the Meicho employees, including Eimi, whose suspicions of her boss Baku are continuing to rise in Tokyo Vice season 2.
