Todd Stashwick’s Favorite Star Trek: Picard Memory: A Patrick Stewart & Jonathan Frakes Sandwich

Todd Stashwick’s Favorite Star Trek: Picard Memory: A Patrick Stewart & Jonathan Frakes Sandwich

Todd Stashwick reveals his favorite Star Trek: Picard season 3 memory, and it involves being in the middle of Patrick Stewart and Jonathan Frakes. Stashwick played Captain Liam Shaw, the breakout new character in Picard season 3. The Captain of the USS Titan-A, Shaw’s initial rudeness to Admiral Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart) and Captain Will Riker (Jonathan Frakes) quickly earned him the ire of viewers, but Shaw’s tragic backstory, snarky dialogue, and Stashwick’s charismatic performance won fans over.

The turnaround Star Trek: Picard fans felt towards Captain Liam Shaw was truly remarkable. Shaw was loathed before he told Admiral Picard the reason for his hostility: Liam was a survivor of Star Trek: The Next Generation‘s Battle of Wolf 359, when Captain Picard was assimilated and led the cybernetic aliens as Locutus. Shaw’s other big sin – deadnaming his First Officer, Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan), and calling her “Commander Hansen” – was also absolved when Liam revealed he actually admired Seven and recommended her promotion to Captain.

Not everyone gets to be sandwiched by two Star Trek legends

Todd Stashwick as Captain Liam Shaw and the USS Titan-A from Star Trek: Picard season 3

Screen Rant caught up with Todd Stashwick at the 51st annual Saturn Awards where he joined the victorious cast of Star Trek: Picard season 3 in winning Best Science Fiction Series. When asked about what his favorite memory from Picard season 3 is, Stashwick pointed out a funny moment when he was sandwiched between Sir Patrick Stewart and Jonathan Frakes. Check out his quote and watch the interview below:

Okay, so we’re doing a scene on the turbolift and I feel this little British arm sneak behind me and grab Jonathan Frakes. It’s very elegant. And then he squeezed me between them and goes, “How does it feel to be the center of the Sir Patrick Stewart and Jonathan Frakes sandwich?” I said, “I think you’re checking off many bucket lists for a lot of people.”… I mean, it’s nerd heaven, right? I’m wearing a Starfleet uniform, and I’m being squeezed by two legends.

Will Todd Stashwick’s Liam Shaw Return To Star Trek?

Star Trek: Legacy is not in development at Paramount+

Captain Liam Shaw died heroically fighting the Borg-assimilated young Starfleet Officers aboard the USS Titan-A in Star Trek: Picard season 3, episode 9, “Vox.” However, death doesn’t necessarily mean the end of Shaw’s story. Picard season 3’s ending set up a proposed spinoff dubbed Star Trek: Legacy that Todd Stashwick has been very vocal about supporting online. One reason is that Picard’s showrunner Terry Matalas has a plan to bring Shaw back somehow if Star Trek: Legacy were to happen.

Liam Shaw’s resurrection seems tied to Star Trek: Legacy happening but, unfortunately, Paramount+ has no plans to develop Star Trek:Picard‘s continuation. Since Shaw is a creation of Star Trek: Picard, there aren’t any other real options for Todd Stashwick to play Liam in live-action, although it is possible Stashwick could be asked to voice a younger Shaw in Star Trek: Lower Decks or Star Trek: Prodigy. Still, Todd Stashwick has amazing memories of befriending the legends in the cast of Star Trek: Picard season 3 and the fun they had on set filming Picard‘s Saturn Award-winning final season.
